I've been saving every penny I have extra (literally) for a set of aluminum heads. JUST about got the rest of the money together. Family members asked what I wanted this year for Christmas. I said, "MONEY". LOL.

Yeah olerodder, you are 100% correct. I have an 8 pt. in there now, car runs 10.0's high 9.90's on a good day. Just going to add down dash bars and a cross bar and x the door bars. I'm a rookie on the forum, will get some pics coming, but I've been at the drag racing game since the mid '60's.

I already have 98% of the parts I need, just trying to get it all back into one running lump so I can be ridin'... The goal has been "next week" for the last month, I may have it close by the end of this week, we'll see...

We rarely have much snow and if it happens it'll gone in a few days, as long as it's dry out I'll be inside the car instead of under it...

Yeah,BB466,Isaw a bad crash at MIR also, may have been the same race when the Pro Stick guys & Gear Jammers ran a 1000 ft.It was a silver Nova, nice car,not anymore just a ball of junk.My car has a 12 point cage now but I think I`m going to add 1 more bar from behind the drivers seat across to the right front floorboard bar for xtra security. Will make the car harder to work on inside but I`m older too,& cannot afford a long recovery in the hospital.

Hey Dan, Gary here, no, I'm talking the "Outlaw" vega that lost the eng at the finish line. Sure don't want to take that ride. Gonna get the car out next week, take and post some pics and get ready for the "Hangover Nats" at Richmond. Hope the weatherman does us good!

Gary, would be interesting to make a comparison between your car and mine............since mine is a 35year old veteran of the B/SM days with big tubs and ladder bars and you have mini's and cal-tracs.

Yeah, I had a buddy back in the 70's ran B/sm, same set up Boss 302, Nash 4 spd. Ran 10.50's if I can remember. I think he said he had to pull the engine up so far to change the plugs!? I ran brackets back then with a 71 Grabber with a high winding 289 and a top loader. Lot of fun, lot of breakage, high 11's!

Im far off from running 9.90s, (10.50 best) but around here a 9.99 with a 8 point gets you thrown out. don't know if that's good or bad. just the way it is. I run a Boss 302 in my car, and changing plugs is not fun.

welcome to the forum, bunch of good guys here

Yeah, same here, but the car only does it in good air late in the season. 9.93 best so far. They just tell me to keep it close. The 9.93 was at an IHRA trk, a little more forgiving.

When mine was built it had a Boss302 with Liberty 4spd and ran mid to low 10's, I think the fastest it ever ran was like a 10.28...............but now with my 408/powerglide I don't need to spin the motor over 7200.........a far cry from the 8500rpm blasts the Boss did.............but wish they hadn't have notched the towers and it still had the Boss motor...............and even changing plugs in my 408 with notched towers is no fun.
Mine only ran the 9.8 once, and it's also not cert'd to go faster than 10.0, and that's all I need...............although I think the new motor can do better..............we'll find out soon enough.

Yeah,I`m hoping the weather holds up too because I`d like to go to the Richmond race also & watch you guys run.Should draw a lot of cars because there is nothing else going on.My car is kinda on hold right now because my wife might lose 1 of her jobs which provides us w/ health care(her primary job),she has a secondary part time one but it does`nt pay very well.I`m paying her car loan off Saturday & we will be OK,but there will be no money for the car for a while.

good luck dan sounds like youve got it all figured out.

back to the original post I have a new project for this week......get my black comet ready to drive to olerodders place

so far we did this in preparation for the trip.
we got my clear dist cap on and got the black 8mm wires on as opposed to a blue and red dist cap yellow wires with a burgundy intake manifold. it was looking like baskinrobbins 31 flavors for a minute.
cleaned the paint off of the tail lights
    headlights in
    put mufflers on
installed aluminum radiator and trans cooler

today were going to hopefully get all of this done
    1.turn rotors
    2. put disc brake proportioning valve on
    3. bleed the brakes
    4. adjust timing
    5. install thermostat
    6. add some trans fluid
    7. install instrument cluster
    8. take it for a ride on the highway
    9. finish my tail light mod

if all of that goes well (doubt half of that will get done since its cold today)
tomorrow Ill be bolting in some bucket seats bolting in all of the seat belts cleaning the windows checking the air pressure oil and water level then fill er up with gas
