No AMC didn't buy there parts from the big three, that was a old wise tale. Next time you get a chance to look at an AMC 360 take a look at it, it is nothing like the Ford 360, AMC's smaller V8 was a 304, nobody but AMC that I know of had a 304 engine, some of the other engines they had out in the day were the same Cubic inch as other American car companies but AMC actually made their own engines. My Grandfather had a few AMC's the two that I still remember were the slant 6 Marlin 1966 it was a three speed slant 6 and would run like a raped ape, and then he had the 1972 AMC Ambassador with the 360 4V it was a pale canary yellow with a black vinyl top and a real sleeper, I wish he had held onto it for one more year before he got rid of it. I would have been turning 16 and getting my license, he offered it to my cousin and she turned it down (ungrateful kid). I would have snatched it up at the drop of a hat, it had A/C, PS, PB, Lether interior. I still remember the setting on the A/C said "Desert only" I really liked that car.
