It's just a covered camaro... http://www.ridelust.com/2010-trans-...the-way-courtesy-trans-am-depot-kevin-morgan/
I can't say this for sure, but I've heard from several Ford dealer guys that the early 70 for parts catalogs actually listed the stripes for a Boss 302 Maverick. Word spread that a Boss Maverick was coming out because of it, but of course it never did.
I know, but it's not really a Pontiac or a Trans-Am. Cool ? Definately, but as a Pontiac fan just not the same.
I really wonder if this was just a styling exercise. My Day worked at Ford back then and He had 6 BOSS 302's and we were into Mavericks. If there was real talk about it I'm sure we would have known about it. I have also heard rumors about Doug Nash doing some BOSS 302 Mavericks that would have been available to the public. I have never been able to confirm this. There is, as most of us probably know, an article that lists all the ford parts needed to build a BOSS 302 Maverick. I have a copy of it somewhere. There was also a red Grabber running around the Dearborn area with a "BOSS 302" in it. I think it was a regular 302 with BOSS or Clevand heads on it if I remember correctlly. It was for sale for 2500 in the late 70's or early 80's. I wanted that to be my first car but it didn't work out! Anybody here know who that may have been?
On a side note, my dad bought a nearly new...wrecked 70 Maverick to build a drag car out of. It was going to replace the 64 Mercury Cyclone he had sold (posted here in the early Comet area). His engine choice was a 69 Boss 302. He got the body fixed and started prepping to drop in the Boss 302, but at the last minute changed his mind and dropped the 6 back in because he needed a daily driver. He drove that car till 1982 but thankfully he still has the Boss motor (yeah it's the real deal...screw in freeze plugs and misspelled C9FE "fireing order" intake) and the huge hood scoop as seen on so many Maverick drag cars like Don Nicholson's. I practically grew up in that little green Maverick, but I wish he had built the drag car.
Nope. It was "period" correct with Cragers, jacked up in the back, the whole deal. I can see like was yesterday. It was red with a black interior.
