Thanks! It's all steel body/bumpers with a fiberglass hood, and has one of the older AJE front end kits. Caltracs with split mono-leafs in the back. 10 pt. cage, subframe connectors and pretty much stock otherwise. The key is lots of power and good power management off the line. Check the archives, I've posted a lot about the car over the last 4-5 years. If you have any questions about it, just let me know.
Excellent work Erick! Is the PSCA doing Arizona this year? I'd love to come out and see you run. Oh and on another note, what is your suspension setup? I've got the Caltracs, with the split monoleafs and the Rancho shocks Calvert suggests. I've also rollerized the rear shackles (eliminated them for all intents and purposes). I'm running a 10.5 slick but I'm looking for a baseline to start with. Calvert said to set it up in the top hole, 1/4 turn preload with the shocks at 5. Any comments on that?
I have cheap front shocks and old really cheap stock Pep Boys rear shocks. I run the caltracs 0 preload, just touching the springs, but I need to adjust those probably. I am upgrading to the Ranchos for the next race. I don't have the rollerized rear shackles and I have my bars on the upper hole. You should be good to go with the shocks and settings you have planned. Just be careful not to do a huge wheelie. You may actually have a problem with keeping the front end down, lol. And yes, I really want to come to AZ to race. I've wanted to come race there since way back when I went there to see the NMRA races. Hopefully I'll make it this year. I plan on making it.
Just let me know if you head out this way Erick. If the race is at Speedworld I am only about 6 miles from there and I can give you a safe place to leave your car and even have a spare bedroom if you need it. Open invite! Of course you will have to put up with my kids and spouse...lol...(and me if you talk to them)!
Right on, thanks. I will definitely let you know if I'll be there. I might take you up on the offer if I don't bring the RV. I have 3 little kids too, so I'm used to the kid stuff.
Erick, The reason I asked is that the Maverick I purchased last year (and have yet to run) was put together by Cook Motor Sports (of the ole Stone/Woods/Cook) guys. The car was first raced at the Winternationals in 1979 at Pomona and has pretty much never changed. The motor is a fairly stout 408ci with Mike's 2spd Powerglide and has an 8 point cage with welded in sub frame connectors. I have seen some pictures of the car racing and especially on the top end it is nose high. It is tubbed and currently has 31" by 13" MT's. The car is all metal, even the tubs are metal, not aluminum. The weight of the car without me is 3125..............it has gone 9.90's. Thanks for your response and I will dig through the archives.
