I say do it. Use a set of springs from a big block mustang an add a few springs to the back to level it. Just got to get rear tires big enough to look right in the wheel wells some bias ply 50`s on 10 inch rims would do. My next driver is gonna be that way with a tunnel ram out the hood and a set of velocity stacks on top the carbs.

thats got a straight axle, and leaf springs on it...in the front.. thats kinda cool. I woluld hella buy a comet like that. go crazy altered gasser withot a hood, fenderwell headers, Big Moon tank in the middle of the grill. go 50's gasser look!!! but you cant drive it everyday...

cant tell its a comet without a hood or bumper...

My heart is in the gasser era, even though I'm only 20 I love the way they look. My next build will be a 55 gasser like the one in American Graffiti. I say do it. As long as it's a straight axle with the old school look that will be sweet!!!

Wow! I really like that look. I wouldn't do it to my current car, but if I had a second one I would do that in a second!

I guess I'm too young to understand the appeal of the gasser look. (Or maybe not young enough?) I could see it on a 50's or older car... But weren't gassers long gone by the time the Maverick came around? I don't know, the concept kinda reminds me of a "rad rod" I saw once - it had all the essential elements. Retro steel wheels painted red with dog dishes, Coker whitewalls, satin black paint, beer keg gas tank, intricate pinstriping, but the car was a Honda Civic.

The 'gasser' look is OK on a period type car. But it has the have all of the trappings of the nostalgia gasser look too.

Bear in mind that handling and cornering is going to be terrible on a gasser.

Do you think that the Dub crowd considered the old gassers as a model for the Donk's?:rofl2:

I was wanting to put a lift on the rear and put some wide tires on the back with cregars but they dont make them in four lugs, which sucks.

just my opinion drag racing maybe but other than that, unfortunately you do have to turn. I like a car that handles too, not just fast straight ahead,, or in left turns either..
ayway as someomne said its your car do wht makes you happy, I also hate sedans on 4by 4 frames looks stupid.. just my opinion no offence to people who do like those

Just be carefull if you raise the car, and keep the handling, if you are going to drive it on the street. The front being high can effect the sight line, and the cornering.
