I am not sure about this but I think dmhines used Satin Black (krylon) and it turned out really nice. You might send out a PM to him and he would be able to tell you for sure

Mine was sprayed in black charcoal metallic.
It is very light metallic, not heavy.
It is a little more gloss than original, but okay.

There is black...and there's black. The only real differences is like the metallic that Seth used. Otherwise, run of the mill black will look like everything else. I posed this same question when I just bought black at the body supply for the 4 door. When I said that I'd prefer a Ford black, he looked at me funny. He explained that other than a few specialized colors, they all are virtually the same.

Sorry to disagree with the paint store man but there is a difference in black. I tried to spot a trunk lid on a 72 Comet with GM black and there is a difference.

Not sure where this discussion is going but I wouldn't think black is black for exterior paint ... we are talking interior here right? .... :)

For exterior paint, yes there is a difference from one kind of black to another. Ford Black is not as 'dark' as GM black. If you put the two side by side you can see a difference. As for interior paint, there's gloss black, semi gloss ( or it can be called satin black or semi flat black), or flat black. IMHO, satin black looks the best.

I use DAR9000 gloss black and add flatner to it. Mix 60% gloss black and 40% flatner. Try this if you have access to a spray gun and compressor. This is close to satin black. If it is not what you want add more or less flatner to your paint. Do not add hardner or your paint will be glossy again. I should add that this is acrylic enamel paint. Flatner will also work in laquer paint if you can find laquer paint.

www.californiamustang has reproduction laquers for all interior and exterior colors for 65-73 mustangs in spray cans. The black interior paint should be the same color for the maverick. I used it to change my tan interior to black and it looks very good. I also got some 2B bright red exterior for touch-up.
