Got the drivers side finished today, small "problem" with the passenger side though. Seems I got two LH lower control arms! Willie at RCM was very gracious and sent another out immediately, plus a pickup order for UPS to return the other. Cannot say enough about RCM, very good people to deal with!

Also picked up another 9" rear axle today mainly for the brakes, but the case was a 2.89" bore unit which I also need as my 3.06 bore case will not work with my "NASCAR" locker. It's stripped down and in the parts vat for the weekend...

    Later!

    forward crossmember gone?

Russ i dont know about eliminating the front member altogether!
 Maybe a nice square tube to replace it ?
Once the shock towers are gone and the front member is out youre adding new HP and Torque then relying on the new (axle set-up ) to take all the flex, hold the engine and suspension ?

Yeah, I'm gonna replace it with a piece of 1 5/8" round tube. RCM's crossmember is 2" x 4" square tubing, prolly enough by itself, but I don't want the radiator support to take all the stress up front.

Eric - if I could afford the 15g's for a Cobra 4-valve, I'd be all over it, but that's out of the question. Any other Ford motor is too low-tech and/or too heavy. Besides, I already have it! :drive:

I replaced my front crossmember with some 2x3 tubing that I dropped to allow a little larger radiator to go in. Your car is looking great! Calling this week to see about the machine work on my engine. Spring is almost here!

    Russ, that's killer.

Let me know if you wanna do a Comet also. I'll purchase the goods and you can slap it together.

IF you were looking for a 4V motor, they also come in Mach 1's, just no forced air induction, also I have seen them in the Lincoln Aviator. There is a guy here in Jacksonville on Craigslist selling his 04 Mach 1 engine AND 5 speed for $3500. Cool thing about the 5 speed Machs is the engine comes with a FORGED crank unlike the automatics which don't and the the 5 speed engine is rated at 5hp more because of it. Just saying you don't have to spend $15K to get a 4.6 4v.

Finally got around to doing one of my shock tower replacement panels. If I ever had one complaint (not really!) about RCM, it's these panels. They just don't work well with a Maverick. I mocked it up in posterboard in 2 pieces. I ended up cutting off the bottom third plus 2" across the top, then I had to rotate the panel about 15 degrees to get the beads to line up with the factory solenoid "bumps". I flanged the factory sheetmetal so these panels would set flush, then tacked it in from behind using the holes from the previously drilled spot welds. The I took the cutoff piece and used it to make the upper part, about 4" up with a 90 degree bend 3/4" to the outside. It took the better part of 5 hrs to get one side roughed in. A rubber flap will cover the A-arm...

Shoot I made mine from a flat sheet and had both installed in less time than that. Used a piece of poster board for the template, transferred to the metal, cut out and they fit perfect. I welded mine from behind like you did and the front as well. Thats the thing, sometime its quicker to make something from scratch than to try and modify something. Looks really good though!

Can you tell me what the upper arms measure from the center of the ball joint to the center of the pivot shaft?

Still here and still working! I'm currently waiting on motor mounts (backordered from Jeg's). I got the engine and trans in place, but had to cut the top of the trans tunnel (thanks, plasma cutter!) to get the angle better. The original photo shows a 7° nose-up angle, but that's been lessened since cutting the tunnel. I'll still need to trim one side of the factory trans crossmember "hoop" in the floor.
