Motor mounts are done, (redesigned) transmission crossmember with driveshaft loop installed. Steering column finally finished and in place. Hopefully someone with an RCM front clip (or anything with a rack and pinion) can advise on what headers to try for test-fitting. I'm wanting something with 1 3/4" or 1 7/8" long tubes. I do realize I'll prolly be buying Ford headers and welding on LSx flanges, so modding a tube or two won't be a problem... Russ
Driveshaft loop Russ Hi,I'm a new member.Your car is looking good I was looking at your crossmember/loop.If I might make 2 sugestions. The loop needs to be smaller and moved back. It looks like it might allow too much movement if the joint fails and it looks too close to the trans. It should be around 6" from the joint
Can't get a good sideview shot, but it is 6" back from the joint. The joint is pretty much even with the front of the main bar (tailshaft on the 200R4 is very short). The loop is the same diameter as the ones Lakewood sells but I can't see where "too big" is of any concern? Russ
Russ Sorry, from that angle it is hard to tell. But I feel A LOT better if it was smaller. The loop should small enough to confine the drive shaft to limit the collateral damage.Just my opinionKeep up the good work & keep the pictures coming. It's great to see Jess
Sweet, looks like you did a great job but Fabman has a good point, after mine seperated in the center I am thinking of adding an additional loop toward the rear. Trust me it's not a good feeling when they start punching holes through the floor and ripping your exhaust off.
Application? Thanks for all the pictures. I did not see maverick listed on there web site, is the piece you are using for another car? thanks
Hmmm, they don't spec the Maverick, but it is car-specific (at least the mounting instructions say). Call and they'll tell you. Russ
No thanks Ford engines belong in Ford cars, I'm a purist when it come to Fords. Now, put a BBF in a Vega, I'd do that, for nothing else than to piss off the bow tie guys. Bow ties are for nerds you know
I, too, have been a diehard Ford-only guy, but I am starting to warm up to LS1s and the variants that are out there now ... Robert Yates had a hand in designing the heads. Supposedly, they are not that far off from actually fitting a small block Ford.
Yea there's actually a couple articles out there about a guy that was putting LS1 heads on a 302. It was pretty interesting...dont know what ever came of it though. If I hadnt been so set on keeping mine all Ford I would have put an LS1 in my Mav. They are great engines! They have been putting out 400hp since 2005 with the LS2. And Fords just now got a small block (the new 5.0) that will keep up with it.
