Really...does a u-turn in an exhaust pipe cause resistance in air flow?

Turbo mufflers have 2 U-bends through perforated pipe sections to "quiet" the noise. Must have some effect on flow...

While we're asking questions, what about the friction between the interior surface of the the pipe and the exhaust gases along that surface...

    Interesting article.

If you haven't already Scott you should look up an exhaust termination box. I see it in a lot of N/A import cars that run street classes that require a full exhaust. Also Nascar was in development with it, I dont know if they ever ended up putting them in.

Nascar Cup doesn't allow termination boxes. The bigger your engine, the bigger the boxes need to be. Can make it hard to fit under a street car.

WOW! Looks like a lot of work.

I never saw an exhaust setup that looks anywhere near as difficult as mine will end up being on any other car.

I think I may need simplify it. New/different mufflers, something!

Interesting read on the boxes but I think were screwed with our cars. I just cant see fitting something large enough under our chassis.

Yes. I agree. I have no room for even a side exhaust after adding the CalTracs and subframe connectors. That is why I cut the old side exhaust/glasspack setup off.

Here is what it looks like. The exhaust was cut off, and I had to rebuild it from scratch. Not much room for any side exits.

I have actually thought about side exits with those flat "NASCAR" oval pipes...

Cannot find a picture of them, but flattened pipe exits, might fit through the caltracs, but more likely under them.

Years back someone on this site posted one for a classic mustang that looked like it'd fit on our chassis also.... It's pretty cool though because after the box you can route the pipes however you want without having to worry about loosing power.

The box on each side of a V8 has to have the volume of 8-10 cylinders...

So you just make them long lol. And the volume is the displacement of the engine not the actual physical size. Take a look at a one litter soda its not very big lay five end to end, on each side and thats the size that the box would need to be. Well for a 5.0L engine. [IMG]

And yeah i'm getting ahead of myself because i Keep on forgetting the driveshaft.... But i'll do all the math tomorrow and make one out of cardboard to test fit. I sold my exhaust system so I dont need to worry about pulling it out.
