I didn't get a chance to even check the other cars out while we were down in Tucson. I was there with a top fuel dragster team...you might remember us, we oiled down the track when the dry sump tank split a seam. (DOH!) From what I saw from our pit there were a TON of neat cars there! Were you racing that day?

Well I got the shock clearance issue taken care of a couple days ago and now I'm working on the fuel tank swap. I did it a little different from the way everyone else did it. I cut that rear support under the bumper and slid it over to where it needed to be with the larger tank and welded it back in. I have decided that I can never weld such thin metal ANYWHERE that it can be seen! I seem to be able to stick two pieces of thin metal together...but it isn't pretty! Anyhow, I also put a sump in this new tank and I'm going to run two fuel injection pumps (MMR 225 lph) and a bypass return regulator. So I had to weld an AN fitting into the top of the tank for the return line. (I'll post some pictures of that as soon as I grind my fugly welds down!) Oh and last week I also put my remote battery disconnect in. I'm so proud of that! I'm a big four speed fan, so I found a knob that is white ceramic to put on the switch, (it looks like a small version of a hurst shifter ball). Ok, so it's the little things that excite me!

    5-3-07 update

I thought that I'd just update you all on what I've gotten done in the last week. The gas tank is mounted now, and yes the welds are ugly and not ground down yet. But having said that...it is in. You might note that I moved that whole section of the support to the passenger side by about 4 inches. I painted the tank a flat black to try and hide what I've done to it. You'll notice that I've put a sump on it. I'm going to run two fuel injection pumps and I'm trying to find a pair of filters that will work well with them. The idea is to be quiet (stealthy) and to keep them hidden under the valence panel. And finally I hooked up the brake lines with parts from my local speed shop. I like the braided lines...I think they give the car a little class.

looks good, but i doubt you're going to hide the fuel lines that easily.:thumbs2:

Yeah, tell me about it! I've been beating my head against the wall to figure out a way around that, but I just felt I had to have the sump to keep the fuel pumps supplied. My only thought is to use those new black fittings and the black push lock hose. Maybe I should hang some of those donkey balls off the bumper to divert attention away from the tank?!? Isn't that how magicians do it? Look over here...not here!

Oh yeah I certainly will. I've spent the last couple weeks enteraining the wife and kids. It's always a challenge balancing fun with the car and fun with the family. But the wife works next weekend and I expect to get the first shock tower completed. Like Rosanne Rosannadanna used to always say...It's always sumpthin!
