if you want too come by this saturday. i took the rear bumper off my daughters car. we can put it on yours, and see if there is a differance. i might have some extra brackets laying around. i am in the 1960- 249 area
I could come by, but I don't trust driving the car that far on my bald tires. I live south of town almost at the beach (Angleton, near Lake Jackson and Freeport). I could pull off the bracket and/or bumper and bring it along...? PM me with address and phone number and I will see if we can swing by this weekend. (Got an extra turn signal cam on hand??? I am having problems with getting one that works, but that is a whole other thread...) I tried to take pictures, but it doesn't show much on the bracket, except how much body work I need to do  EDIT--my dad just said there is a car show at Trader Village, so I might be up that direction anyway...
That is the correct spacing for a 70-72 car ..... See how the line coming off the 1/4 extention flows perfectly into the curve of the bumper. That is why the spacing is like that. Also prevents a light bumper hit from crumpling your sheet metal. If you want it closer than that you will have to do some non-factory modifications ...
I was about to say the same thing Dan... the bumper ain't 'sposed ta sit right on the quarter panels and taillight panel!
I guess I better pay a little better attention next time I see a small bumper mav, and compare it. But you guys are right, the lines do flow from bumper to body... Maybe if all the body panels were the same color, it wouldn't appear to stand out so much
Dont look at mine because it is tighter against the car than normal because I welded the brackets to the bumper which means I omitted the wave washer that usually goes between the bumper and bracket. That spaces it out a bit.
Mavaholic...Good idea...might try something like that. As far as taking the looks of my car personally...read my description. I am pretty sure the word "ugly" and various colors are included. I just know that someday...hmmmmmm... someday, it will look good. But for now, I can flog the crap out of it and not have to worry about messing up the paint on the fenders as I work on the motor
