Thanks for asking but there is not much to report. Due to lack of heat, other than a kerosene heater, all progress in the garage seems to stop around November. Once the weather breaks I'll get to try out my new Lincoln welder and get a lot of this stuff done. Today it's in the 40's and feels great but all I'm doing is sitting on the garage floor, huddled next to that kero heater, stripping paint and surface rust from a Lakewood bell housing. At least I'm making some kind of progress.
Roll overs Don't get to post much on here and most of you don't know me. I have 2 mavs but it has been a long time since I have been able to work on them due to other commitments I GUESS YOU WOULD SAY. Anyway I am building a set of rollover/engine hoist/engine stand combo with scrap steel I have been collecting from the scrap bin at work. I think the rotation problems are like MAV1970 is saying in his post about his rollovers. It appears you need to have your center of rotation somewhat above the bumper level. I will be using drop brackets from the rotating point to see how that works and will post pictures of my contraption if I can figure out how to post pics. Never did it before.
I certainly agree about that center of gravity problem Just be careful and make your bottom legs as wide as you can so it will be more stable and won't flip over. Make sure you have help and someone to "watch your back" when you roll it over the first time. I put large blocks under the car so it would hit them first kind of like soft jack stands. Even with the off center problem, I can still roll it over and back up straight by myself. It's now just a little harder with parts of the roll cage installed. Be sure to post photos of your "contraption" when you're done
Rollover Thanks for the tip. I'm 58" wide so that will be plenty I hope. "Forks" extend forward about 40". Vertical post is 4x4 - 1/4" wall square tube. I am thinking a starter gear with a crank attached turning as large a flexplate as I can get should make it easier to control the rotation using the gear reduction of that setup. What you think? I know------ overkill but it would be soooo cool.
