I want to swap my 8" rear end (2.73) to a Mustang 95 rear end 3.73... the question is: is the same width? what I need to know or do exactly before start?

my 8" have drum brakes and the new have disc brakes for 180 dll!!!

I have the AOD tranny so the 2.73 is too slow for me.

    Thanks guys!

    hello,
there is no 8.8 that is the same width as a maverick 8"
    this thread will help http://mmb.maverick.to/showthread.php?t=48832

the fox(79-93) will fit but is wider and you have to move the spring perches, ive heard of people using more back spacing on the wheels
but they usually come with drums & not so popular gear ratios and 28 spline.

the sn95(95-98) and up mustang 8.8 is wider than the fox one and would most likely have to be narrowed and spring perches moved and 28 spline.

    there is another option
the explorer/mountainier has certain models(eddiebaur) that have 3.73 grears and disc brakes & 31 spline limited slip, but is like 3" wider than a mav 8" and offset to one side, this is what i went with after narrowing it to 1" shorter overall length than my maverick 8" for wider tires

That is the way my cell will mount also to replace the through the floor stock tank and I'm just not used to seeing bolts---on a rear end cover----under a Maverick :D

You can get a 9in from under a 60s big blk Cougar or Mustang,& it will bolt right in,I know,I have one.It is much stronger than the others & will take a lot more abuse.I`m going to sell this one locally, will not ship,31 spline axles,N case big bearing pumpkin,3.89 Detroit locker, just does`nt have backing plates for $800.The race car I bought has a Moser in it w/ disc brakes so I don`t need it.
