So, I got my maverick repainted. The people who painted it removed my license plate light, didn't replace it, and claim the car never had one (figures). I got a new one from Melvin's Maverick parts and it bolts up nicely, but there is no wire to plug into behind the taillight panel. I see a brown wire, which I assume is the headlight switch on hot wire that looks as if it would plug into the license plate light, but it's already connected to some canister attached to the metal support near the fuel filler neck and the canister itself doesn't appear to do anything. Can anyone tell me what that canister is and where I should plug in my license plate light?
I’m holding the brown wire in this picture. It’s directly connected to this canister looking thing and it goes nowhere. You can see the new wire for the license plate light on the right
That is your license plate wire, the brown one - and that capacitor or static suppresser was never a part of the factory trunk wiring . You see one by the voltage regulator on some cars for radio static suppression. There should be a ground wire that attaches where that capacitor is attached.
Thanks a lot for the help. I figured that was the wire, but was confused about that static suppressor. I’m not well versed in electrical. My father installed an alpine stereo 15 years ago when I was still in high school and wasn’t sure what it was, but it should be safe to say I don’t need the suppressor with a modern-ish stereo unit
