Anybody install a set of these KG5447 yet? I need to change out my rear shocks cause the bushings are coming apart. And I have KYB Gas A Just in the front. Ill need to get a set of these for the back.

    Thanks for the research Markso125

I run Gabriel Hi-Jackers in the back. they're gas shocks, and i keep 'em blown all the way up, yet they still give a really smooth ride. only time it's rough is if i back out of a steep drive way or something similar.

Those are the dreaded "Air shocks"..they are not reccomended to run on our cars(especially blown all the way up) because they have a tendency to destroy the upper sheetmetal shock mounts, especially when they have no give in them because they are fully pressurised.
The sheetmetal shock mounts fail before the shocks give and end up ripping a hole in your trunk floor.
The KYB shocks we are talking about are performance monotube shocks, they are more performance oriented and wont jack up the car or make up for failed spring rate.

i finally put these shocks in today.
no drive experience, though - engine is scheduled for rebuild.
pictures of the rear stance tomorrow - front wheels still off due to shelby drop.

    two things i noticed:
these shocks do not come with the upper bolt. i took it out of my old kyb gr-2, fit perfectly.
i believe the one inch difference in length is immediately noticeable. with the old gr-2, i actually had to push the rear axle UP to get the lower nuts on the shocks. with the new shocks, i had to compress them to get them in. that is with one year old jrs 4 leaf springs.

Hum, I got some of these rear shocks coming, going to try them out. They will replace a plain old stock shock. I just installed some Cal Trac's also. Also the one member is right about air shocks, DON'T USE THEM ON MAVERICKS! My one friend did and it eventually poked a hole right through the trunk!

I installed the KYB rear shocks on my 74 maverick (part #kg5447) a couple days ago. They fit perfect, the only thing you have to do is use the maverick upper mounting bolt setup and remove the steel sleeve from your old shocks upper rubber and insert them into the top rubber ends of new shock and bolt them on. This way when you tighten them down on top, the sleeve won't allow the rubber to be crushed, just like stock setup. I also used the lower mounting rubber and washers from old shocks because they are bigger, the ones in the kit looks like they will work but a smaller. I noticed the shocks are way more firm then what I had on it, took car for a ride and they work perfect.

Good artical on springs & shocks! There is no performance shock available for the rears of our cars, the KYB shock thats actually for a Nissian truck looks like a stock maverick, works just fine and it is a monotube design. Now if you want to change everything from stock, there are other ways to do a drag car setup.
