I got mine from : dashcaps .com It fit perfect and it looks like factory dash, very happy, installed it in less than a min. I was just trail fitting it before I glued it down was harder to get back off than put it on
No offense Grabber75, but it sounds like you don't know what a "dash" is. What you are describing sounds more like the instrument cluster or something...
Well here in the next month or so I will be parking my mav so that I can do a rebuild on the motor and do some serious top end mods. I will figure out what will work better for me pulling the dash or just working around it. I still need to find a place to pick up a new heater box. Would you people reccomend keeping or ditching the A/C? The compressor is missing and whoever pulled it was lame and didn't bother to plug the lines so I am sure they are full of junk.
Surely he is not talking about the package tray is he? I removed a dash out of a parts car this past summer, and all I can say is it took me a lot longer than 20 mins. and it wasn't easy. Not exactly hard, but it took time to find all the screws and bolts etc.
I can have the entire dash out of a 97 accord in 20 min or less and that is not an easy task. If you have done it more than once then you know where all the hardware is and that makes it a piece of cake.
don't forget to put the 2825-w5w bulbs in when you replace the dash bulbs. they are brighter. j.m.o....frank...:bananaman :bananaman
Great. I was wondering if some of my cluster lights were burnt out. Now I know they are just lame lights. Thanks for the tip.
Ok I just took out the instrument cluster bezel........I was in for a surprise. The white plastic piece that holds the two gauges and the lightbulbs is completely destroyed! It's barely holding together good enough to hold one of the gauges, when I touch it it just crumbles. My first thought is to just glue the gauges directly to the black bezel, but that won't hold the light bulbs......and when I was messing with it I accidentally hit the speedometer needle and it spun around the face......I just hope that it will still be set right when i try to drive. I don't know, what do you guys suggest? How am I going to put my dash back together with this white piece being so busted up?
You may just have to take a trip to the junkyards & fins another Maverick/Comet cluster that you can salvage parts from...
no im talking about the whole dash any car is assembled to install the dash as a whole.......do you actually think that they lay on thier backs to install a dash in the factory? get a clue will ya? as far as not knowing anything about cars......its nice to know that you can try and cut me down but i probably know more about cars than you do
Yes, you are both right. The dash can be removed and installed as a whole, but TL, and other are trying to say is that there it is a whole lot easier to just remove the lower dash tray, and and a couple other little things to remove the heater box. The whole metal dash assembly was installed in the factory before practically anything else was (windshield, interior, etc) - which made it much easier and quick to put in the car. Unfortunatly, this makes it much more awkward/difficult/time consuming to remove from an assembled car. With the windshield out it makes it much easier to remove the entire dash assembily. As far as the heater box goes, as I said before, just remove the lower dash tray and work at it from there. Contorting for a bit is worth the saved time of removing the dash, disconnecting the steering column, unplugging the wires, etc. For the dash lights or pad, remove the few items from the metal dash and work from there. It may seen harder, but it actually is less time consuming and a PITA to do it this way. -Corbin
What part of "no offense" don't you understand?? And nowhere in my post did it say that you "don't know anything about cars". The dashes are installed at the factory BEFORE the windshields & rubber seals are installed. And I'd love to see someone remove an entire dash from a Maverick in "20 minutes" without damaging anything. It's certainly not something that the average person can do...
Poor Grabber75, Everybody seems to be bagging on you about this one. I am sure that it can be done quickly and efficently if you have the proper tools and know exactly where every piece of hardware is.
i never said i didnt take the window out. it only takes about five minutes to pull out the window its just a rubber gasket with a little bit of sealer around it, you start a corner and the widow comes right out, you dont even need tools to remove the windshield. not once did i ever say that i didnt remove the windshield, as always you guys always ASSUME that you know it all. then again im not saying i do.....remember assume makes an ASS out of U and ME. and Blown76mav anytime you want to take your dash out i will be more than happy to come show you, unfortunatley mine will be out of the car for awhile yet.
i guess i have to quote you again T.L. ........... "And nowhere in my post did it say that you "don't know anything about cars". " i dont know the difference between a dash and an instrument cluster? sounds like you were trying to say i didnt know anything about cars to me... and yes i found that very offensive, i am not some 16 year old kid that is just learning about cars you know i happen to be very well versed in the automotive and industrial engine field. i have worked on engines that you cant even imagine ever existed. some of them are big enough to stand in one of the cylinders and still not be able to reach the top of the deck, 16 ton cranks, pistons 4 feet tall, flywheels that weigh 8 tons....and if you dont believe me i can post pictures of them. i have no reason to lie about removing the dash, there is nothing to gain on here by doing so. i try to help anyone out on here to the best of my ability and all i get is put down for it. i happen to be a very good problem solver and am even better at finding the simplest way of doin it. as far as reaching thru holes in the dash that is something that isnt too easy for me considering i am 6 foot tall and 250 pounds with a farm build.its not so easy for me to reach up inside the dash to remove cagenuts from a dash pad because something will break and i will probably end up having to remove the dash to fix it anyway. thats why i invested in the ford shop manual, it shows you how to do anything and everything the right way. therefore i dont think i willl be posting anymore help posts, since you guys seem to know the answers to everything i see no reason in giving any pointers, i will just go about my own business. seems most of you would prefer that anyhow.
