I've been in the process of restoring my old 70' Maverick. The interior is in very good condition, really all it needed was a suspension rebuild, and a paint job. Anyways, I had just finished adjusting the brakes, and went for a test drive.. Just a short 3 mile drive. On my way back, I go to turn off the road and get rear ended hard. My 70' Mav gets smashed, the back seats come flying off, everything that was in my trunk is now in my backseat.. And the entire back of the car is crunched. (Driver Wasn't paying Attention, Nor Did She Have Insurance.) I believe the car is now totaled.. I feel like I'm going to be totally low balled to death. And after spending hours and hours with this car.. I don't know, just sucks that there's one last Maverick out on the roads now.
WOW ........ so sorry to hear of this, but glad you seem to be OK. The '70 as you know has the gas tank as the trunk floor and are known to rupture and cause horrible fires in accidents. As for insurance, what do you have? Was it a stated value policy (like Hagerty). If so you will get whatever value was paid for in advance. If you do not have stated value, you are at the mercy of value comparisons and insurance adjusters. Best thing is to get comparisons for similar condition cars and pull all the receipts you have from your restoration. Is Missouri an insurance required state? You might have to sue her to get money from her. Let us know what happens ......... and again I'm glad you are OK
I am sorry to hear all of your hard work is gone and hopefully youre doing okay as far as insurance goes hopefully you had an agreed value with hagerty otherwise like others said get youre own estimates of the damages and also get youre own comparisons for value and check sales on ebay in your area also check every local car magazine newspaper classified google and local craigslist then come up with an average number out of all of the cars sold in your area it might help with the actual value post pics of the damage
Sadly it wasn't a stated value policy.. And yes, it could have been much worse, my gas tank did happen to get smashed along with everything else. Gas was leaking everywhere, as I pulled off the road. There were Semi's coming from both directions, and I was pushed into both lanes.. I'm very very lucky. And yeah, I figured I'd have to sue, she is actually arrested now. She had a warrant out for her arrest.. haha
was your car registered and insured? if not then you might just be out because theyll say you didnt belong on the road period and if youdnt illegally been on the road this wouldve never happened and try to turn it around and say its your fault for being on the road in the first place then theyll try to make you pay for the damage to the other car
HAHA thats makes you feel a little better even if she didnt go to jail for smashing your car its CARma (spelled wrong I know) coming back to bite her in the A**
Here's a picture of my nephew's car. This is the one I bought off of Dennis quite some time ago. He needs to find a good donor body, because this car was solid. -Matt
a newer body but is the frame bent? if so youre better off just starting with another car and using this one for parts and with miss match parts and not being painted theyre not going to give you much unfortunately I believe if you get the insurance to pay $3500-$5000 youll be doing good your receipts will help to argue the point and how rust free the car is will help add to the value but dont settle for the first thing they offer you unfortunately it will only be enough to start over whatever they give you
His Dad's retired. Time for a road trip. I'd say the frame is bent looking at the pictures. It's a true 70 Grabber. Has 71 Grabber hood and converted to buckets. So I think he should use it to build up another donor body.
Being a real Grabber will add value. Make sure the adjuster knows this. Surprised the fiberglass spoiler didn't get it. That is a bonus.
