There are so many variables it is hard to say for sure. I would hope everyone is running front disc brakes. Aftermarket brakes will vary in size. I am running 15 x 7 factory Magnums on the front. Pretty much a neutral backspace. These clear Granada disc calipers, where 14 x 7 would not. As I coach my retail stores, if they are buying custom wheels, you really need to get the wheel and check the fitment on the car before they ever put a tire on it. They are returnable until there's been a tire put on them. The center bore size needs to be checked too. The 8" width also makes me question what tire size you are trying to run. Depending on with diameter it may contact the fender opening or inner fender.
I actually have the front drum on it still, it is a 70. I have replaced all the suspension including springs in the front. I have not chosen a tire size yet, car is still at the body shop and I happen to run across these wheels that came off of a Can you tell me what will?
Before putting custom wheels and tires on it, please get some disc brakes on the front at minimum. If you are sharing the road with modern cars it will give you a fighting chance. If some dummy with their face in their phone in a modern car jumps on their brakes in a modern car, you can't stop as fast as they can. Especially important if you are putting a stronger engine in the car. While I still had drums on my Comet, I put a 4 barrel and intake on the 302 and almost rear-ended other cars twice in the first week. I later put the 351 in the car, drove it once and parked it until I got disc brakes on the front. I knew the car was so much faster than the brakes could handle. With drum brakes, if you run through enough standing water, you won't have any brakes until you drag them long enough to boil the water out... been there. Living in Miss. you see rain like I do in FL.
please get some disc brakes on the front at minimum. Great advice: "A word to the wise, should be sufficient".
I agree with both of you. It is in the plans down the road, I just haven't found a donor for that to happen yet.
Get the disc brakes first. The center bore size for the wheel can change and there is a chance wheels fit to drums will no longer fit discs. Also calipers can get in the way depending on rim size/width.
My son has what you need for the Brake upgrade. Spindles and caliper brackets off a granada. He works in Biloxi and Ocean Springs. He may still have the calipers also.
