Roger's Idiot thread for a 302/C4 into a '70

I tried to test fit the drivers side header today while I had the car up in the air. Was jacked up about 15". I couldnt get the header up far enough to reach the front port. It kept hitting the MANUAL steering box or the thing that the old linkage came out of. I dont remember which now.

Gonna try again this weekend when I can get it higher in the air.

Yikes! That thing is high. I wouldnt be able to crawl under there without an extra set of jackstands on the sides behind the front wheels and wheel chocs in the back. You are a brave and resourceful man, lol. You conquered those things! I am so happy for you.

 

It did have another set of stands under by the door, and chocs on the back. Also had the hoist hooked to the engine, but yes was not something I would want to do again.

I never get under a car which doesn't have the wheels chocked. Never. It's just not worth the slightest chance of something going wrong.

 

is this part of the choke i took off? Do i need it? its awful rusted and dry rotted. Im going to go with an after market elect choke.

 

That kicks the idle speed up when the a/c is turned on to offset the added load on the engine.

 

Yup, unless you have A/C, it's a useless part.

 

I assume there is a bracket that this is supposed to bolt to? I have two brakets but neither have a bolt hole in it . Any one have a pic of what bracket I need to order?

 

The bracket looks very similar to this.

 

yeah, i dont have one of those. maybe the truck had its linkage hooked to the truck body somehow? Gonna have to see if I can order something I guess
