If you just gave a shot down the carb, probably ran all it's going to without more gas... With float bowl filled should run 15-20 seconds. At that point, they've usually picked up gas in tank.

Maybe 2½ - 3 ounces to fill carb bowl.

Roger, I suggest you purchase a remote starting switch. I have owned the same Snap-on switch for years. It allows you to start your car without assistance while remaining under the hood. Great safety item. You can operate the throttle while starting the engine plus observe what is going on under the hood i.e. fuel/oil leaks!!! For an old Ford or Mercury with a remote starter solenoid it is a no brainer.

Just don't buy a cheap switch.

Sounded real promising there for a second. I think all the gas you had in the carb.

I double checked the wire order, looks right to me. Put a hose in the gas can to the fuel pump. I checked a plug wire to ground and it is sparking. I just dont know.

Is it drawing fuel from can & creating fuel pressure?

    Tried gas down carb again?

When I "first started" my motor, it wouldnt stay running. I dont remember which way the timing was off, but after about a 30* change, it ran enough to put a light on it. Yours sound like the timing is off some but may run once the carb has drawn and delivers fuel. Re-fill the bowl through the vent again. I think you are close.

If you have a small container with spout it's easy to fill carb bowl. Youtube's Uncle Tony's Garage did a video on using a similar bottle.

When there's gas in bowl the accelerator pump in carb should function(one for each barrell), will stream gas anytime throttle is opened.

Thank you, thats what I actually did yesterday. I filled it. I saw gas squirting little jet streams. It just doesnt want to fire. I think my plugs wires are right. I got spark on the #5. I think that means my module is working since I got spark? I may have to pull all the wires and check for spark.

Mebby it's losing spark with ignition in run? Possibly run power to module miswired? A flaky module can give same symptom.

Need to verify it has continual spark in start & run(use coil wire to ground, 8x more sparks), easy enough for start. For run, I think you can verify by jumping solenoid(ign on). The solenoid ign wire should be disconnected for this procedure.

One other possibility, maybe the dist was installed incorrectly when you bought engine.

Verify the rotor is pointing at #1 plug wire on cap with engine at TDC, possible already checked?

Who did your wiring? Tim the Tool Man? I'd start by trouble shooting that ignition wiring and make your connections better.

I know wire nuts are not perm, once i get it to start I will solder them in with heat shrink. I did go thru all the wire nuts and make sure they were connected and well twisted. I got a spark plug light to test with. And last I checked a Cocaine trafficer and drunk driver did not wire my car

Couple wire nuts ain't nothing, here's how electronics experimenters breadboard a new circuit.
