They do offer hose bushings. If I were to use one I would use some rubber cement and fix it to the hose.

The group on facebook had a couple members say that they had the pan filled in a 1970. So I should be good

One thing for sur, that motor has probably been rebuilt. It's repainted the WRONG color(rebuilders often did that). The proper color Ford blue is similar to the tarp it's setting on, was color used from '66-'80, reguardless of engine size.

Also the vacuum switch is painted, Ford never painted senders, sensors etc.

Is there a number stamped on the flat pad between intake and bellhousing?

    Mallory distributors have red caps.

Unless you’re going to be racing Fords Duraspark distributor that came with your 1979 302 will be just fine and you can get red caps for them.

I'd run the Dura Spark system, it adds to the cool factor. I spin mine to 6500 rpm over and over again with no problem. My genuine Motorcraft module has been in service for over 25 years. How many aftermarket units can do that?

I personally like an understated engine compartment. To me big flashy items like distributor caps or shiny hoses detracts from the experience. Components should complement one another, not stand out.

I should change out the red wires near the voltage regulator. I'll get around to it one of these days.

Cap is a piece of cake, used on all with Duraspark from '77-up. Continued on as late as '96 for TFI systems(my beater F-150 has a black cap). The adapter varies, early ones have clip hold down to dist, later ones bolt to dist & are not interchangeable.

I have a Crane Hi-6 with std small cap on my Cobra. That's a far more potent system than Duraspark & I've never had crossfire issues. cometengineright33.jpg

It's not a DS, box is a Street Fire which is sort of a baby MSD 6AL.
