I need some tips on shaving the drip rails off my car. duno if i want to do it myself or let my buddy at the body shop do it
Its A LOT of work. You basically have to stitch weld the whole seam that is exposed when you take the rail off. And then after that you cant drive in the rain What most guys do is just take off the trim and paint the rail body color. From five feet away it disappears to the naked eye.
I posted a pic of what I used. I started with a pocket screw driver and GENTLY got it to start coming off then I used the special tool http://mmb.maverick.to/showthread.php?t=53908
I thought about drip rail shaving on mine since it was here at work in the body shop when we stripped it. Didnt figure it would be that hard till my body man started laughing at me. Even paying him cash it just wasnt worth it to me. I didnt realize all the layers of metal and amount of work to do it right. After he explained it I changed my mind pretty quick.
oH yeah, I love straight, polished, stainless, sooo nice and well worth the effort, not hard to do either.
It is not that hard the trick is you only cut off 5 inches at at time weld that area and then cut another 5 inches the hardest part is it will take all day .. Really not that hard ,,,,
