Prepping my 71 2 door for paint, and I’ve gotten to the window trim. I am wondering if there’s any special techniques or tricks for getting the side chrome trim (around the door windows and rear quarter window) off of the car. Thanks!
I would mask them , I got them off but messed them up , not worth taking them off in my opinion . I wasn’t putting mine back on but I tried to get them off without damaging them anyway, no luck for me but other people on here say they have done it , no special tools that I know off .
Bought some new chrome pieces for two of the cars and STILL haven't replaced them. I have to remove the back seat , also the rear interior panels to reach the fasteners holding these little jewels down. I plan to do it later on when it slows down here . There are lots of cars with ' painted ' pieces ... just sand the pits ( if any ) down smooth , primer and paint . They look great. Cometized (Chip)
That chrome isn’t hard to get off ,(once the seat and trim panel are removed) but the trim around the door is , I think they look good painted too
I pulled the chrome off a Comet GT parts' and added it to my (non)Grabber. I think it gives a more dramatic Hardtop look to the door/window/B-C Pillars. VS have fun
Have a look here, Acornridgeman explains it very well in the following thread: http://mmb.maverick.to/threads/stainless-trim-replacement.93028/#post-949859
