I got to the race course instruction and practice a little late but we got to really do some nice runs around this track here in las vegas. Lot's of amazing cars. A lot high end cars that are caged and modified. Older ferraris, vipers, a ton of corvettes and some porsches and a couple lamborginis.

Today we actually went to HWY 318 and we got to drive through it. Since it's an open highway our instructor basically showed us the landmarks and the mile markers. It's a two lane highway and we obviously get to use the whole thing and for sunday it's fully blocked off. Some accidents have happened.

One guy in the unlimited class blew up his rear tire but somehow was able to continue running at 170mph which obviously isn't advisable. Sure enough, the metal shrapnel from his aluminum rim tore up the tires of the other car behind which destroyed it.

Another guy in a kit car that really wasn't too well done got decapitated, this is almost 2 decades ago. They are much stricter.

Another guy was doing a burnout in town during the parade and killed 3 bystanders. Lot's of crazy stories.

A bunch of us didn't have the right helmets. I guess the helmet I bought for drag racing is a motorcycle helmet . . . as to why I didn't realize that, don't know. My friend gave me his SA2000 helmet with HANS but it's expired. So I still have to find a helmet in town.

The first day we were in las vegas but now we are in Ely which is 200-300 miles away. They insisted that we all travel as a caravan which creates a lot of traffic for other people but they've been doing it for 25 years so I'm sure they know what they doing.

6 people racers got pulled over for going too fast on their way to Ely. Just to point out, our cars are all stickered up and they pretty much stand out . . . so speeding with stickers on and other race cars in tow, not the best idea. Hope the cops just warn them though, would suck to get a ticket.

I need to jet down because we are 3500 ft up. Do I jet down primaries and secondaries? I'm thinking 2 jet sizes?

    Still to do:
Need to figure out a mount for my GPS
Buy a helmet, found one for 250$
Holley HP fuel pump is making crazy noise, dunno why but need to check it out
Drive the course by myself one more time
Go over my times and turns for the track, gonna mount a clipboard to look at
Need to figure out how to set up my suspension adjustments

I have never driven this race without a navigator, now with that said I wouldn'd worry so much about trying to mount a clipboard or you GPS, because taking your eyes off the road for just a brief moment in time at 100+mph can be.................well..................hazardous to your health.
Does the GPS have a time and distance function, if so you could program the GPS and let it's voice activation tell you when a turn is coming up...............select minutes and if it has a voice function let that guide you through the course. Say............4 minutes to turn 1, 2 minutes of straight away.............and so on. I am not sure it can be done, but you may be able to program it...............????
Trying to look and do more than just driving/braking/accelerating/and thinking is................well just a little risky at speed...........how big of screen does your GPS have???? and looking at the clip board..........WOW!
This is your first time, I know it is competitive out there..........but don't try and do everything by yourself, get the feel of the car at speed and the course and don't worry so much about being in the top 5 in your class..................This is Just MHO

It's this kind of weather ever since yesterday and my car is soaked of course but I'm sure it'll be better tomorrow. Ely is a calm little town, very mellow. It's 6000 elevation here, I thought it was only 3500. The race is on 318 fwy which is at 3500.

The town looks so old school, there is 2 parts stores, 2-3 mechanic shops and a couple tire shops. A ton of motels, an ACE hardware and 8 family medicine doctors! It's a town of 4200 people, that's a lotta docs for one town but that's good.

This is my hotel room. A TON of last minute things I needed to get done. Seems like a lot of people are just sitting around chilling but I also saw a lot of people at the parts store, so I'm not alone :)

You think the car is running rich?
