I wasn't referring to Outlaw 10.5 cars, smartass. The reference was for real live street driven cars. I've tested the ET Streets back to back against the ET Drag Radial and there's no difference in 60' times. Or anywhere else on the track. The drag radials are very good. And if I'm the screwball then tell me why NMRA won't allow them in their drag radial class? The competitors in that class have stated that the M/T tires are just like a drag slick and that would take away from the class. So they stick with the BFG drag radial.
i switched from the m/t et streets to their et street drag radials. no comparison. the et street drag radial is the best tire out there in my opinion. my class changed the rules to allow slicks last year. i'll stick with the drag radials from m/t. i bought a new set for the et finals this year and haven't put them on yet as the ones i put on in oct. 2004 are still going strong.i use the 275/50/15 size.
i've tried goodyears, hoosiers and phoenix. they all worked purty decent but mickey's hands down are the way to go. they need a light burnout and last way longer than most brands.i use 10.5's and 11.5's. 347 /dynamic c-4/ convertor by cameron
Hey Shadowmaster ... Not meaning to hi-jack the thread but would you mind posting (maybe start in a different thread) A couple of pics of your Maverick ,and give us a rundown of what mods it has? I was curious about it and looked around some but couldn`t find any info on it. Thanks
I"ve got an email into Mickey Thompson, I figured since they know more about tires than anyone here they can settle this. My argument is that the et street/et drag will "outperform" the radial on the "drag strip". I stated that et streets and et drags will go faster/quicker, meaning that the limit of the et radial will be reached before the limit of the others will be reached. All the data that i've seen is from cars running 1.50-1.60 sixty foot times, not that fast in the overall scheme of things. I would like a definitive answer though, since i'm in the market for a new set of tires and my class has decided to allow the new et radial in for competition, If they perform better I will go with those...........we shall see....
Here is my email to MT: Hello, I race in a local \"street car\" class that has tire restrictions. I\'ve been running et streets and et drags for years and have had excellent results with them. The car is 3000 lbs, stock suspension w/bolt ons, I leave on a t-brake(auto tranny) and the car will sixty foot high 1.30\'s on a set of 28x12.5 ET Streets. I\'ve been told, by some fellow racers, that the et radial will out-perform the et street and et drag on the track. I just can\'t believe that a radial will outperform your purpose-built drag tires on a car that leaves on a t-brake and nitrous. What is your take on this?? When I order tires would I be better off going with the et radial?? Will they outperform the et street and et drag that i\'ve become accustomed to?? Thank you for your time Stephen Moore prostroker@aol.com Here is the Response: With an auto tranny and trans brake go with the bias ply streets. They will spin a little more than the radial but better top end. Thanks, Shaun Sparks I dont' think this really shines a clear light on the discussion but it is a bit more input. I'll probably stick with the ET Streets but if I can get a deal on the radials I might try them.
they will spin a little more? i thought the whole point of my original post was to find a tire that has better traction... why would a tire company say, "its spins alittle more but has better top end."? lol am i missing something.. and thanks for all the discussion.. some heated, but the bottom line is i am learning what tires to get.. i dont think i will be going for a full drag race slick. i simply want a good tread based DOT tire that can be used as a daily driver but that will also have a nice soft grippy tire base for me to use at the drag strip. thanks again
Sometimes a bit of spin helps out. Last year I was running on tires that are too tall for my combination and it was killing me for the first third of the track. I put an extra few pounds in the BFG drag radials to reduce the contact patch and just cleaned them up rather than getting them hot in the waterbox. Best run ever followed. Then I went home.
Also...the "better top end" refers to the tire growth at the top end of the track. Allows for a little more mph.
waht makes the mini spool so unsafe for street driving? im gonna be doing this rearend over the next 3 weeks and i want to get it done.. i am getting 15x8 rims 3.5 backspacing 255 60 15 tires... BFG T/A... or Goodyear Eagle GT II which has a softer compound than the T/A tires i have 3.45 gear set ready to go in.. no money for a trak lok.. so is a mini spool going to be ok...? i put about 4000 a year... it was a daily driver... but gas is so expensive.. i barely get to drive it 4 times a month thanks
It's not that it's unsafe, just a pain in the butt. I've run one for a few years now with stock axles and no trouble, but I don't drive the car everyday or anything. Things can get squirrely in a hurry if you get caught in the rain or put your foot in it too hard in a corner with a spool. Be careful.
I'd try a mini-spool if I were you. They make it a little harder to turn corners because the outside wheel has to hop or slip due to the locked rear end. With rain drag radials and a spool could be a little unsafe. They work great for drag racing though and they are pretty easy to install.
thats what i was asking about.. i figured that the mini spool is bascially a posi track.... i really dont drive on the road that much anymroe.. as i stated before.. gas is so high... and it doesnt rain that much around here..except for monsoon season of course.. thanks for the heads up..
