Different methods can be tried but what I hear most often is to accelerate at WOT to approx 5K in 2nd, then let it cost down(still in 2nd) to 2K, repeat a few times... Engine should be fully warmed... Still if ring seal is truly the problem, there would likely be heavy vapor from the breather just idling...
On a side note. On all 302s should there be that little ring spacee for the crank on the flywheel side. My mid 80 block didn't have one. If there is suppose to be one does it go on the crank side or the flywheel side..... Second stupid question is will a set of early mustang short headers fit a maverick?
That spacer your mentioning is usually used when a mid plate is installed between engine and trans crank side.
Is the mid plate the large thin plate between the motor and tranny? I am using one in my setup. Never seen one without it now that I think about it. Can you install without it? What does it actually do.
Nothing noticeable at idle. Doesn't smoke a lick. Oil from the dipstick tube is the only sign I've had of crankcase pressure.
When using the mid plate and not the spacer and you bolt the converter to flex plate it pulls conv out of the pump 90 thous more. sometimes that is a problem. All converters are made different it may not be a problem. Call your converter builder. Good Luck
Im not. I was running non detergent with Lucas zinc additive for the first two oil changes. Just went to a conventional non synthetic with half a jug of Lucas additive. I won't go synthetic until I have a few thousand on it.
Maybe not!! Most people in general don't know the difference between a flywheel and flex plate. I was just assuming still good info for some one wanting to know what that spacer is for. Good Luck with your engine
