A guy, that I bought some chrome arm rest bases from on Ebay, sent me these photos of colored bases that came off of some Mavericks. There are differences that he asked me to clarify. Maybe some one can help. I see that he has these on Ebay now. His original email is below: "I was hoping you could help me out with a very early 70 Maverick 2 dr I came across. I say early production because the seat belt had a date of 69 instead of 70 like I usually see. My question is in regards to the arm rest bases. They have the same part # like the black ones on your car except the design is unusual as well as the inner door handles. The door handles have a crease mark down the center instead of being smooth. The base base get wider at the end and have a raised part as well. I was hoping you or one your buddies on the Maverick forum would know if this was early production part only that was replaced by the bases you use to have in your car. Or maybe the guy just put them in his Maverick from another car. The car was pretty clean for being 39 years old. I provided pics. Part # for the inner door handles 6222515 & 6222514"
I went through this went getting/putting arm rest on my old heap. Appearantly there is a standard version and a deluxed version (something like that) I know someone will have the technical answer.
It sounds like his black bases came off of a 69.5 Maverick. I already tossed my original gold bases so I have nothing to compare.
...what kind of sound does a...69.5 base make...i'v heard bases...pop and crack...but wouldn't any color/year base make that sound... ......
Ford built in a snapping sound, in their bases, at the introduction of the 69.5 - it is exclusive to the early Mavericks and the black colored bases just had a deeper snapping sound to them because black is obviously denser, very similar to a "black hole". They changed it over to that pop and crack sound in late 70 which lasted right up until 1977. Now there was a ripping sound that continued after 77 but only in Brazil. I heard rumor of a grinding sound, used on the bases in Mexico, but that has not yet been confirmed. Hope that clears that up.
