My engine builder, who's family have drag racing history going back to the late 50's, told me that it was OK to mount my aluminum engine plate solid to my cage but it was imperative that I keep the stock rubber transmission mount
I don't have experience with these, but I remember some guys talking about these Ron Morris adjustable motor mounts a while ago. I don't know if anyone has used them before, and even though they are not "solid", they appear beefier than stock. http://www.ronmorrisperformance.com/miva/merchant.mvc?Store_Code=rmp&Screen=PROD&Product_Code=6110
Im not a fan of solid engine mounts, unless your car has a full cage, and is tied out front, I have had very high end engine builders explain to me that the torque on the leave of a drag car pulls on the wall of the block, witch then does all sorts of funky things to cylinder walls. when I worked at IROC and we ran the dodges, we ran solid mounts, almost everytime we wrecked a car, we broke the motor mount tabs off the block and that was with a Banjo Mathews stock car chassis, Then Richard Petty told us to use rubber mounts, and we stopped breaking blocks, and started breaking mounts and fan shrouds after a wreck. Years ago when I bought the oem type mounts for my Maverick, the LS mount came with a rivet through the whole assy, I still use those mounts and have well over 1000 passes through the 25plus years I have raced my car. just my opinion Duane
Does anyone know if there is an place to purchase motor mounts that will have the rivet on the Left Side motor mount?
Motor mounts are the same for both sides. No such thing as a left or a right. Sorry....I do not know where to buy one with the "pin".
I figured that but I was going off the statement from Duane's post. Thanks for the information Craig. You are always a help. I also saw that someone post in my research that they bought a set from O' Reilly's and they had the pin/rivet in them. I will check there tomorrow and see.
That's good to know, for Ford. But it is not necessarily true with Chevrolet and I wouldn't have believed it had I not experienced it while trying to drop a 396 in my '69 Chevelle SS back in '86...
Early Falcons have a left and right mount. I pinned my own mounts on my Falcon. The same could be done the same with Maverick mounts.
