Spark plugs help

Hey guys forgive me if this is a stupid question but how can I remove these back spark plugs and ignition wires. I have a ratchet with a swivel attachment and some wire pliers but I can’t fit my pliers in to take out the wires. The only thing I can think of is removing the brake booster and master cylinder for better access but I don’t want to unless I have to. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

 

Try the pliers from underneath the car. To install new plugs use just a ratchet a regular spark plug socket.

Many of us have a small piece of vacuum hose in our toolbox. We use it to start the plugs.

While your at it, looks like the vac booster hose should be replaced.

Thanks! I’ll pick one of those up, I took them off when I changed the shocks and totally forgot to put them back on. Appreciate the reminder haha

 

I just looked to try and find a replacement hose and couldn’t find anything, Where can I buy one?

 

Looks like just a piece of hose; take it off and carry to parts store so can get correct diameter and length. Also, be careful removing hose from plastic connector, brittle, don't want damage it. I would slit it w/ utility knife and pull it off.

Vacuum hose is different than hoses rated for pressure. While most work OK, the vacuum will cause some to collapse.

I bought some awhile back, I believe was from Rockauto.

 

Most spark plug sockets have a 3/4" wrench head on them. That is for loosening and tightening. One reason I stay away from PB. My 68 Cougar would bring new words to my mouth.

 

No the older plugs require 13/16", shrank to 5/8 in latter '70s(tho not inline 6). Cleveland & 429 Cobra Jet engines introduced in '70 used the smaller plugs.

Deep sockets with rubber inside were sold for sole purpose of plug removal.

 

You mean like these? That have the 3/4" wrench head or the universal swivel?

 

Yeah but one in my tool box has a 7/8" end nut, Craftsman probably 40 years old.
