Those grills were used on the '72 Torino line through the '79 LTD II's and T-birds (and their Mercury counterparts). There are a couple variants. Some have a more rounded corner than others, but they all look very similar.

I know this is an old thread, but I thought I'd post this pic for future reference in case anybody has an early Maverick with the lower dash tray. I was able to install 2 small speakers in the tray and I used some metal grill work cut out of a Galaxie rear speaker grill to guard the speakers.

I elected to replace this tray with an unmodified one and heaved this one in the dumpster. I'll probably regret no keeping it for something, but I don't have space for it.

Looks good. My sons kick panels are pretty bad so I dont mind hacking them up.

From an audio quality standpoint, the kick-panels are really not an ideal place for speakers, even though the cut-outs are there behind them.

I like the idea of the dual voice-coil center speaker in the top of the dash, however I'm concerned about the sun beating the hell out of it.

Right now, I just have 6x9s in the back.

Those are hard things to do. You need some expert guidance. I have never tried such things

I have detachable tweeters in my package tray nx to the AC vents and 6.125 mid ranges in the kick panel area. I have the crossover networks in the area where the radio use to be and the radio in the diy mini consule. I get some nice audio frm the system "by my standard". Lots of wiring goes along w/this type of setup... The relevant pix are in post #27, pic 709. Since this was done I have reinstalled the kick panel.
