Being one piece, I don't see it ripping out. And the added plate to already 1/4" wall is far greater in strength than any other part of the car lol. I also see where gussets and even the tab could add support on the ends though.. Being that mine has spools and not a tube I am considering all the options. This car at one time was raced as is. It seems like it held up. I just happen to know MY luck.

I bought a plate a few days ago to make my gussets out of.. One more spine injection tomorrow. During my resting time I need to fix my power cable and get my welder brought over to the house. The Dr told me not to be lifting over 25lbs and no traveling/sitting for more than about an hour at a time. :(

Before you go doing all that work to get gussets out of that plate, check out A & A Manufacturing - I used them for my own project plus for the last 20 years building race cars - gussets are dirt cheap and they are stamped out so each one is identical - lots of other steel products too :)

Interesting stuff. I am making simple 1" gussets by snipping off the corners.. Nothing special. I do like the web looking ones.

Managed to make the gussets and fixed the garage ac unit. I also repaired my 220v circuit that had been cut. Now I can bring my welder over and get these things on.

    Nice work, Gene!

And why did you cut the 220V line? You could have just flipped the breaker to turn it off... :p

It got nicked when the concrete foundation was poured for our room addition. The breaker automatically turned off. ;)
    Haha..
Frank.. I added the 220v cable a few years ago to the garage. A that time I found the existing cable to the garage for all the other lights etc was spliced IN the ground  . When I found it I did not have the proper stuff to fix it. So I dug around the cable and called it a day and planned to go to the hardware store on my next trip out. It rained the next day or two. I had forgotten about the cable being in the hole. I kept seeing "Comet" flares through the window but couldn't catch where it was coming from. Then I happened to see it as I was about to turn away again. :yikes::slap:

They always look good with a hole drilled in them - it would look like you really cared about weight savings
