LOL ... yeah ... technically Ford called them Styled Steel Wheels ... They are basically unchromed Magnum 500's though ...
Hey Dan, Those wheels look great, I can't wait to see them on the car. BTW, What centers are you geting?
The first Shelby with Magnums in '66 had them painted argent(silver) as standard. Chrome was optional. If you go to a MCA show you will find a '69 Boss 302 once in a while with its' original argent painted Magnum 500's. Chrome is more common, but never was the original wheel. I didn't find a pic of one in my saved pics of any but, here are argent silver painted centers on chrome. Seth
Hey, I'm doing the exact same thing as we speak. Yours look great. By the way, where are you getting the center caps, and are they pricey?
Got em cheap and used on eBay ... well bought them cheap and used ... didn't get them yet ... Seller assured me they are on their way ...
Cool. What do they look like. Is there an emblem in the center? The only ones I've ever found are for mustangs.
I didn't have a sand blaster. I just cleaned them up with Engine Degreaser. Sanded down down any small nicks or rust spots on the visable areas of the wheel and thoroughly coated them with Eastwood Rust Encapsolator. I used Eastwood Argent Paint for the silver and Rustoleum Satin Black for the black. The roughest area of the wheels was under the trim rings ... and since those are covered anyway I didn't go crazy trying to sand or clean the up. That Rust Enscapsolator will cover anything and is pretty much permanent ... What looks like rust on the wheels in the top pictures is not rust. I am not sure what they come off of but two of the wheels were argent and black and the other two were orange and black .... The faded Orange looks rusty but they weren't.
