The 2 smaller wires hooked to the solenoid have different color rubber boots. One is blue and the other is black but the wires on both are red/blue. Which one is hooked to the battery side?

The battery side should only have power when the key is turned to start. The other side should have power with the key on (i believe).

The solenoid should be marked "S" and "I".
The "I" gets the wire that is hot with the key on.
The "S" gets the wire that is hot when the key is turned to activate the starter.

If the solenoid is not marked as such...
I believe, from memory, that the "S" terminal is the one closest to the battery.
The "I" terminal would be the one on the starter cable side.

The boots on mine are blue and green. The blue one is on the front side...closest to the battery.
