All flat black just looks like primer to me - like you haven't gotten around to actually painting it yet :)

Satin Black looks better than Flat, I think.

    This looks good.
The chrome, and polished aluminum wheels really make a nice contrast.

I like the satin/semi-gloss (or semi-flat) with more smoothness and a little subdued shine to it. It's not mirror finish, but looks better than the primer-looking flat/mattes while still making a "statement".

As for being a worn out "fad" or "over-done"......couldn't the same be said, and more accurately, about glossy paint, that's been the overwhelming "trend" for over a century?.....now that's old,....and since tens of millions of cars throughout that time have sported the "glossy" look, that's about as "over-done" as it gets.

I vote gloss black with satin black graphics keeping trim and bumpers chrome. Flat and semi black cars have been overdone and look like crap most of the time since the owners don't spend the time to do it right.

I agree. thats why i avoid car shows. if i have to look at another convertible red 64 mustang or 67 camaro with a paint job 10x better then ever imagined when new tagged as a restoration, im going to puke. lets not get into the bass-boat paint schemes. My 76 has the original blue, but its faded semi flat, and, personally, i like it. If i get the car repainted i'll go the same color with a semi flat clear. it offsets the black wheels nicely IMHO.

i personally like a good satin black paint job. i was pretty happy with mine. i would have liked a little more sheen to it. my next one will be more of a satin than the last one was pretty flat.
i really dont like seeing the ones that show all the lines of the paint passes or are faded and chalky. i think thats the trend that people have gotten tired of or never really liked.
i do love taking a maverick to car shows. especially a maverick like mine or mashoris that are rough in the paint and detail but custom built for performance. people go nuts over these cars and ignore the mustangs and camaros with the crazy expensive paint and detailing.
