Do 2 door and 4 door columns interchange? Also, do all years interchange? I need to find a column for my 1972 Grabber.

I would think the best way to see what one would fit would be check the...ing. switch. I think there were 3 different ones.

I could have bought another mostly complete 72 4 door for cheap. Probably should have done it. I need a driver door glass and rear quarter glass. So I am hoping to find a parts car with that stuff too.

Columns vary by transmission but in any given year are identical. In other words all column automatics in '72 are same. They can vary by year, but usually isn't enough difference to prevent swap. Exception would be early '70 that have ign switch in dash.

Not all Maverick columns are the same
    Turn signal switch is different
    Ignition switch is different
    Top of column is different
Wiring harness at column is different
Shift lever is different, but will interchange

Thanks. Some genius made there own adapter for a Superior 500 steering wheel. They drilled holes in the side and top of the threaded piece and welded it to the threaded shaft you see in that pic with the turn signal cam.

Agreed. Now you can't even take it apart and put it back together easily. It's potentially a big enough pain in the a$$ that I will just replace it .....

    Joe,
If you can grind off the welds or get the threaded tip of the shaft cut off, so you can take the column apart, it would be easy enough to rebuild it with a different shaft. I have a decent shaft if you want it. Just pay for the shipping.

I may have the old one out of my 72 Comet if you are interested. I cannot remember how complete it is.

I appreciate it guys. What would it cost to ship that threaded shaft to 73026? I know I can cut off the shaft if I take the column out. thanks again. -Joe

I did a quick FedEx home delivery calculation and looks like under $20 - which is way better than the post office. Package would be about 7 pounds.

If interested, PM me and I'll get you the details.
