Maverick felt like I was driving a bumper car. Just finished the front suspension. So on to the steering. I have the inner and outer tie rods and adjusters and the idler arm. Looking for a Manufacturer of the center steering bar, and the power steering unit itself. Anyone out there know if they make a steering box for the Maverick that has a tighter ratio than the stock 16:1? or if one fits from another ford?

Have you gotten an alignment yet?

I did complete front suspension as well on comet but have not been on road yet.

I recalled from suspension rebuild on my mustang that car was wobbly after suspension rebuild. After an alignment things where good to go afterwards.

Too bad. 16: 1 it is then for the steering box. I'll pull the center link and see if theres bushings that can be replaced to recondition the old one. Just worried about 45 years of age wallowing out the holes where the tie rods and power steering arm connect. Thanks for the info

In 50+ years of vehicle ownership, I'm yet to see Ford vehicle with looseness in the tie rod or power cylinder mounting. Bent, now that's a different story.

I took a look at the thread where you have all the parts laid out. looks like the way to go. I have everything but a cylinder rebuild kit or a new cylinder. I'll get started right after I reverse those bushings on the strut rods. Thanks again.

I agree....your center link will not have any "wear".

In rebuilding the steering parts (ie, slave cylinder, control valve) I suggest you rebuild the ones you have. Google Rodes Restorations in Galion, Ohio. They can rebuild all your old parts.

You can use a tape measure on the inside of your backing plates on the front wheel to get the toe adjusted close to correct. Take measurements in front of wheel and behind the wheel. Adjust accordingly to get your width between front and back close. Alignment shop can zero it in while adjusting the rest.
