    Hi gang,

I have a hair pulling situation here. I have two 71 Mavericks. I pulled the steering wheel off the first without a hitch (using a puller of course.). Now I’m trying to remove the other, and it's not budging at all! I put so much pressure on it, I’m afraid I'll damage the threads! If any of you have a suggestion, I’m all ears (or eyes lol) Thanks in advance. :)

They can be a real pain sometimes, try putting a little lubricant in the threads (like PB) and let it soak in, or you might try melting a little candle wax in the threads. I have had much better luck using impact driver rather than ratchet. You could also smack the puller on the head with a hammer when you have some pressure on it

I sprayed the heck out of it with penetrant. I’ll let it soak more overnight and give it a whirl again tomorrow. Thanks for the tip, I'll try that.

Heat works wonders but is a bit tough to used with the plastic bits so close to where you need to heat.

I remember my dad pulling steering wheels by loosening the bolts then whacking the shaft real good and the wheel would pop up alot of times
glad you got it loose alot of times these cars take some convincing to do what you want

I remember seeing a person with his knees pushing up on the steering wheel and smacking the shaft with a hammer and wheel came loose and smacked him in the face and giving him a bloody nose . Lesson learned is to leave nut on shaft or use tools designed for the job but not always applicable when you are at the wrecking yard
