If you don't have a whole lot of faith in your mechanic, there's an easy way to check the sending unit yourself to find out for sure if it's causing the problem; just remove the electrical connector from the sending unit at the gas tank and short out the connector with a short piece of wire. If your gas gauge reads anything other than empty, the sending unit is the culprit. If it still continues to show empty, the problem is in the wiring between the sending unit and gauge, or the gauge itself.
m&m, i have checked units before but that sounds very easy. thanks for the tip...frank..:bananaman :bananaman
y'know...could just be the float in the carb is wrong...not opening enough to feed that volume of gas for highway speeds..rob try this 1) join the maverick club (sorry i couldn't pass it up) 2)go to advanceautoparts.com they have everything. your local mom n pop parts sore should be able to get a rebuild kit. where do you live in jersey? there is a place in newark that rebuilds them for about 100 bucks they take it off, rebuild it and replace it. or look in the yellow pages for advance auto parts. 3) did i mention joining the club? you should hook up with todd. he is getting pretty good at fixing mavericks
thanks for all the info today guys its VERY helpful. i did check the fuel gauge and "shorted" it out. works fine sending units dead. gotta pick one of them up but the only place i know that has them is autokrafters. anyone know of any other people that carries them?? when i get the gas outta that tank im going to change the rest of the fuel line rubber under the car and change out that sending unit. if im still having problems after that im going to get a rebuild kit for that carb. so hopefully i got all the info i need and now its just getting things moving. ill join the club eventually maybe i dont know as of now. i guess it depends on how this maverick starts looking in the up coming months. thanks everyone! rob
