looks kinda like this or this. This one is jaylenos just my opinion. I think that maverick looks realy cool. just looks like a bad @$$ nissan 280z Lol, edit. i just figured out thats the car they used. Any way buetful car.
Im almost positive the one on top was on import nights and is got a hell of motor in it...........much hp.
Well i'm not much of a Japanese car fan, sorry i like American BUT....... if there is two Japanese cars i have always liked as far back in time as the 1970's it's the Datsun 240Z and those cool little 510's. I still think their cool so the Maverick 280ZX looks sorta cool, sorry guys but i have to tell the truth on this posting.
I'm not a big fan of most imports of today, but the things that make me dislike them - front wheel drive, 4 cylinders, uninteresting body and just a general "cheap" feel - these things aren't present on the Z-cars. They had full bonafide EFI with six injectors back in '75. Disc brakes on all four corners. Independent rear suspension, and of course RWD. Some had a 5-speed, some had 4. Very few automatics. My 280ZX had a 3.90 LSD from the factory. My '78 would out corner anything and stuck to the road like nothing else. At 135 it felt like a Cadillac. It felt "impatient" until at least 90. Honestly, I couldn't out-drive that car. I did not have the balls to jerk the wheel at the kind of speed it would have taken to get that car sideways, and I didn't even have fat tires on it. 195's on 15's I think. Don't get me wrong, I don't like rice either, but the Z's are not "sport compact" or "tuner" cars, they are full-on sportscars with a Datsun nameplate.
I had 3 Z's... put SBC's in em all and the cars still handled well(great engine set back).I love those little Z cars.Best/most fun rides i ever had.My porsche 944 was the only other one that size that came close to being that much fun.
Body shell That's the one. I picked it up just outside of Philly. Yeah, I got the Grumpy Jenkins story too, so before I started on it, I contacted Grumpy's shop to see if there was any truth to it. Had there have been, I think I'd had to have done some kind of pseudo-Grumpy's Toy drag car. The story was bogus. Apparently the owner who had the original fabrication work done on the body shell knew Grumpy, but by that time (around 1978), Grumpy was having his chassis' done at another shop nearby. It's likely the original fabrication work and cage were done by the same shop that did Grumpy's later cars like the Vega and such, but he and his shop confirmed they never personally did a Maverick. Supposedly the Maverick used only had 6,000 miles on it at the time of the conversion. Considering the condition of the door jambs and what little of the body remained, I believe that's probably true.
I like the concept! Nice to see someone doing something a little outside the main stream resto. Makes me think...My brother in law has a 280zx were not working on anymore hmmm . I am actually using something off the car not saying what though...
