SuperGrabber Update Pics Okay, re-upped my support. Let's try again. Hope it's not too soon... The first and third pics give you a better idea of the motor set-back and the overal suspension setup. The bags are not on it here. The fourth pic shows air cleaner choice will be limited! I'm even worried about a 4-barrel clearance! The fifth pic shows the steering joints Jack fabricated.
SuperGrabber Update Pics Let's try some more... Here, the first picture shows how little clearance there is for headers. The third pic gives you an idea why a big block is out of the question due to the narrow frame rails. The fourth picture shows why a master cylinder in the usual location might be a problem! Ha, ha, ha.
SuperGrabber Update Pics Let's try some more... In these you can see how the trans tunnel turned out, coming close to finishing the interior fabrication. The last pic shows how tight header clearance will be on the passenger side too.
Here is what we started with,It's coming along nicely now, can't wait to hang a rear under it and get it down on the floor to see what it sits like,we"ll keep you posted ...Jack
Jack, Seeing your photos of what you started with, I see what looks like no front frame rails at all. When you fabricated your new 2 x 3 rails, what did you attach them to?
If you look close at the pics, there are two 2x3 rails sticking out angle cut at the floor, that is why the down tubes were put in ,back to the cage to support the front clip,I fish plated the joints for strenth also.
Really Nice! I can't wait to see it in person, someday. I really like how the lower crossbar blends into the bottom of the dash panel.
I have been following this thread with great interest ... awesome work going on here. Every problem is an opportunity in disguise ... think old-NASCAR-style air cleaner sealed up to and breathing from the cowl vents.
my K&N stopped clearing when i put the edelbrock manifold under it so i ordered a 1 inch tall circle. if you think you are going to be much higher you may have to do some fab work on the filter. captaincomet has a pretty cool suggestion for that.
It was custom built for this job and is 3" narrower than standard width, the rack was narrowed also to avoid "bumpsteer".
