it's happening! the jump on the bandwagon with mavericks! lol! look like a good idea! needs my carbon fiber grabber hood though!
You're right! It DOES need one of your carbon fiber Grabber hoods. That's exactly what I plan on at this time. .....I'm thinking a donation for advertising/publicity purposes.... Ha, ha, ha!
yes yes you do! would go killer with that paint job! i'm sorry i think there is a bad connection! i'll call you back...lol!
Super Grabber I looked at the pictures of the build and I was very impressed. It looks like it will be a magazine quality car. You're a master builder. If I could make a suggestion. Why not try to replicate a Ford Talledega nose. That way the car will be all Ford. You could extend the front fenders. Make a filler piece for in front of the hood. The front of the stock hood curves down like the Talladega hood already. Make a flush grill like the Talledega. For the bottom valance you could probably weld two valances together for and extended valance. The bottom valance would look something like the bottom of a Superbird nose cone. That way the car would be all American and have a Nascar theme. Hot Rod magazine ran a 67 Camaro with a Toyota motor in it about 2 months ago. People got upset and some even threatened to cancel their subscriptions. (they posted the responses in the next month 's mag) The car would get a lot more coverage if it was all USA. It's just a suggestion; like I said I'm very impressed with the quality of your work.
Talledega It will be all American. The nose piece I will be utilizing was made in the USA. And even if I add on a lower valance meant for a 240Z, it would be an aftermarket part made here, and it will be so heavily modified, it won't be "240Z" anymore anyway. The SuperGrabber will look much more like a NASCAR than the factory Talledega. It will look the the prototype Torino King Cobras or the Dodge Daytona/Plymouth Superbirds. But thanks. I DO sincerely hope it is magazine worthy. I'd like to see it get a feature in Hot Rod and Popular Hot Rodding, as well as Mustangs and Fords. It's always good for the Maverick community when any Mavericks or Comets get featured.
Attached are some updated progress pictures of the SuperGrabber. Jack has the rear end installed now. I chose an 8.8" rear with 3.55 limited slip gearing and disc brakes from an Explorer. Jack heavily encouraged me to go with the much more popular and durable 9" rear, but I chose the 8.8" because it was more cost effective since the disc brakes and gears were already included. It had to be narrowed 5 inches. I've found a nice finned aluminum rear end cover I can add to it after it's all cleaned up and painted. This is what the stance will be with the air bag suspension fully deflated. To drive it, it will sit a little higher, which is necessitated by the massive front wheels and tires. I wish I could have used about 18" fronts, but 20" was the smallest I could use and match up the Grabber tires I wanted. I still think the overall result is pretty wicked. I'm debating now on doing a tilt front end in order to facilitate easier access to the engine and front end. We'll see what Jack has to say about welding a Grabber hood to the fenders for a one-piece tilt assembly using a Grabber hood. It's getting there!!
Very nice!! But the wheels are almost too big, but I'm sure it'll look alot different once it's finished.
I agree about the fronts, but again, I was limited to 20-inchers due to my tire selection. Maybe at some point I can get General Tire to do a one-off pair for me in 18". They would look much better at about that size. Anyone know anyone at General Tire?
I was going to see if I could talk Chuck into changing direction a little and make it a nostalga early '70s New England style asphalt Modified...What do you think Chuck?LOL! I gotta say this project is a little different, but I love a challenge and Chucks going to have a really unique, neat piece when it's done....Jack
