    Talladega Nose

This is what the Talledega Superspeedway nose looked like in 1970. Only 5 prototypes were made. Looks a lot like the planned nose of your Maverick.

I think the front tires and wheels actually look ok with the fender on, but the back looks way too big maybe less wheel and more tire. Just my :2cents:. It looks great by the way!!

Exactly. These are the cars I sorta patterned the SuperGrabber after. I even considered doing something that truly looked like it could have been factory, but I've always wanted to do a Pro-Touring look and since the body was already completely tubbed, I figured this was my chance.

As for the rear wheel and tire size, this is the look I wanted. It won't be for everybody, that's for sure, but I like the rears. The fronts DO look better with the fenders on, but Jack assures me that for those monsters to turn, ALOT of the fender will have to be radiused; probably too much to look very good. So I may have to step down to 17's or 18's. They'll still only be 1" or 2" shorter though. We'll see... I HATE the thought of buying a new pair! Ouch!

This might be some helpful info for you Chuck... My tires are 235/55/17 on 8" wheels. Overall diameter is just under 27" and my car's suspension is lowered at least 2" from stock. In this pic you can see about how far into the wheel well my front tires go. For reference, this is the ragged edge of how tight you can tuck a tire this size without rubbing, and my fender lip is rolled in. Also I can't imagine using a tire any wider than mine up front without modifications. I think you can do 18's no problem if you have less sidewall than I do, but 20's will be a challenge.

Thanks. Unfortunately, none of this really applies to the SuperGrabber as none of the frame rails or suspension is the factory type or width. It was set up as narrow as possible to accomodate the 20" wheel & tire width and height, but it still isn't working out as well as I'd hoped. Without the narrowed track width, I'm sure the 275/45/20's would be WAY too big. The 20's are 29" tall and about 10.7" wide. The 18's are 28" tall, and the 17's are 27" tall. Widths are about 1/2" and 1" narrower, so not as significant a difference as one might expect. Now is when I need one of those wheel and tire fitment thingies! But thanks for the info. It would certainly be helpful to someone with a factory width front suspension. - And your car looks REALLY cool, by the way!

Here's two more pics. Good luck with the Maverick with the King Cobra (not Datsun) nose.

Nice concept drawings!!! Love the taillights and the front end. Ford needs to get in gear on a new Maverick. Just send them this rendering. That'd make the challenger say it's prayers.....

I sat looking at this for about 5 minutes saying "damn that looks tough" over and over at random intervals.

    SuperGrabber Update

Not much new to report on the SuperGrabber project. I have it home now. Here's a couple pictures of it leaving the shop. After all the money I tied up in it getting it this far, I need to wait a little while before I can move much further along.
