I have a t5 z-spec transmission in my maverick and it's started to have some weird sound/feel issues... When the clutch is pushed in and in gear it makes a dragging sound and feels like it through the shifter... It also happens when in neutral with clutch pushed in. Ideas? Thoughts? Thank you.
think simple: Loose motor mount shifting engine when depressing Z-Bar ?... Any drivetrain abnormality will be telegraphed through your shifter. If drag-sound only happens with clutch 'pushed in' , look first to Clutch, TO bearing, then T5' front bearing retainer before internals. OEM- T5's are famous for the Aluminum front snout galling from TO bearing, snapping off the bearing retainer snout and wiping out input and countershafts: -- (#218 Z Spec "Pocket Bearing" T5 toast) I rebuilt and put in my Maverick have fun
With noise only when clutch is depressed is probably the throw out bearing. Z spec T5 should have no issues with bearing retainer.
Any recommendations on which throwout bearing to get? I see two diameters available, then there is the "self aligning" vs standard... I'm also thinking about pilot bushing while I'm in there... I'm running a 289 and t5... been a long time since the conversion and I can't find my old orders to use as reference and I've forgot a lot of my research over the years...
No recommendations on the throw out bearing, but I’ve been using a roller bearing instead of a pilot bushing/crappy little needle bearing for years now with great results. I’m not sure the recess in the back of a 289 crank is the same diameter as a 302/5.0, so do a little checking. 6003RS 17x35x10 MM
