Is there any insulation on the positive wire to the solenoid?
That looks like a fire and explosion waiting to happen.....

I'm guessing it has a clear cover over the cable...I have one like it...I doubt it's bare wire.

Don's right about the battery. Once it moves to the trunk you are going to have to pop the trunk for the inspection. Cut off MUST be visible outside the trunk ON-OFF. Fasteners must be at least 3/8 inch. I found threaded rod with aluminum angle going across the battery works quick and easy.

How fast do you think the old girl is going to go?

    Slicks? Drive shaft loop?

Lug nut won’t come into play until you get a lot faster. Put a extra spring on the carb have your stock seat beats working, get a helmet just to be safe and go have fun!
You won't have any problems with tech and if they do say something, unless your really unsafe they will let you run anyways.

According to the 2010 NHRA Rule Book/Tech Book, helmets must be snell 2000 or SFI 41.1a minimum. I don't know how fast you have to go to be required to wear one, so if you're not required to wear one they probably won't care if it's not Snell 2000 or SFI 41.1. I don't have my rule book handy but I'm sure somebody could look up the time for you. It's general regulation 10:7 in the back.

Id bet if you have the basics covered your fine. Most tracks wont even looka at it and if they do a catch can and helmet and seatbelt will be all thats needed.

They way I take it is that the J-bolts on the battery are fine so long as that is stock equivilent, and the battery is still in stock location.

I think you will have to worry in much more detail only after you move the battery to the trunk.

What track are you going to run at? Is it an NHRA or IHRA or an independent track?:)

Okay I just read back a ways and saw Va Motorsports Park/ NHRA. 13.99 or quicker requires a helmet. I'd tell them you hope for 14's and bring any helmet with you. Don't even show it to them. Just wear it and no one will probably say a thing. Also 13.99 and utilizing slicks for a driveshaft loop. 11.49 and slower with street tires.
