I never tried a DP bigger than a 600 on my Big Block I built. 600 was to small obviously. But I had a 750 Vac secondary carb I ran on it and it ran good.
First run at track was a 13.80 and I changed the secondary spring from the stock to the smallest spring made (short yellow one if I recall) and it picked up .54 in the 1000'. I was impressed.
The truck was never all that fast, had some kinda problem I couldnt find... UNTIL the day after I sold it we figured it out. Im trying to get it back from my brother, to put on a better intake and he put a 750 Edelbrock on it, so I will see how it runs. May try a bigger DP on it. Anyways, sorry for the rambling

Yea Im going to keep the 750 carb I know it will work just fine.I'm messing with the jets a little.Currently theres 76s in the front and 80s in the back and it looks like Im going to go with 82s this weekend.Still trying to get the right color on the plug.I'll get there it will just take some time.Still 13.3 isnt bad for a 9:1 engine with stock heads.

No. Too much carb leads to sluggish throttle response.

It's also got over a foot of runner length. That helps.

Try telling my brother that. He's running a modified 850 (flows 900+) on a mild 306 in my other Mustang. Before that, it had a 1050 dominator. The dominator was about .1 faster, but it was bigger than the motor and consistency suffered (found the problem with that, but after we changed carbs).

For that matter, the one on my Maverick flows 1280+(more like 1400)...and it's only 415 cubic inches.

I was kinda thinking that myself.
I've seen a ton of 302's with 750's on it or so
And I will be running atleast that big on my 302
Run a 750 on a 390 FE, and it could use a lot bigger.
The 650 i put on it was SLOW.
Also, I've seen a 500 cfm Holley put on a stock 302 in a truck, ran great

Took the stock 5 blade rigid fan off and replaced it with a 16'' Perma-Cool fan and added a 3" X pipe with Bullit mufflers.Picked up 3 tenths to a 13.07 @ 101 in 2600 ft of air.Im getting there also 60fts went from 1.84 to 1.790 had a 1.786 once.Went 4 rounds last time out car is consentant.Awsome Ive orderd 26 x 10.50 ET streets I;m tossen the 28" way tall going through the traps at 5500rpm.Also I'm adding Eld. Perf. RPM heads Ill let you all know how it works out step by step. Also I'll be trying a Pro-Systems 650 carb to see how it picks it up.All changes and runs will be step by step so I can see what each thing dose for times. Also thanks to Charlie Booze (BBR) for parts and advice.

Well dicided do do some more test & tune to see how the rummor of how a 750vac2nd was to large. So I ran 2 passes 13.07 and a 13.05 @ close to 101mph.Then grabbed a 750dbbl pumper from a friend adjusted only idle and ran a 12.91 @ 102.98, 60ft went from 1.84 to 1.78 so I think that a 750cfm carb being to large is :bs: hope to get back to the track soon.

i ran a 650dp, then changed to a pro system body for a 650/750. didn't get much of a change. threw on my buddies 750hp and really picked it up. i had problems getting the plugs to show any color. i talked to a couple of ford experts here and they told me to change to the autolite racing plug AR3910. worked like a charm. i was using the plugs that edelbrock had reccommended. these guys said they were good for the street but not for the track with a car that had all msd ignition parts. good luck. just a thought that if you can't get it to richen up, might need a different plug. i had to get checkers to special order them for me. about $5 a plug.:)
