THAT would be a great stimulus plan. No additional program needed. If they would not have required destruction of the engines, and just let the dealers do what they want with the "clunkers", it would have increased the supply of used cars, putting downward pressure on those prices and stimulating more sales there too. Razorsharp for president!!!

So what am I supposed to do with my wifes Geo Prism and my F150? Her car doesn't qualify because it gets too good of mpg and neither does my truck because it's too old. My truck gets 10mpg on a good day...it runs great and goes fine but it's too old. 1983 is too old...it makes no sense at all. This program seems geared and designed to target the dreaded modern SUV and it ignores actual gas guzzlers and clunkers like 82 Diplomats and 78 Delta 88s and 81 C10s and 85 Suburbans and 77 Granadas. It's stupid and asinine that the old cars don't count when they are the ones with the worst mileage. I don't get it.

Don't even get me started....and they want to run Health Care!!!Alot of nice clean used vehicles just getting wasted...

Meanwhile decrepit late 70s/early 80s sh*tboxes are still being driven everywhere.

last time i watched the news, they were saying cash for clunkers was supposed to end monday. i don't know whether the politicians have decided we havent spent enough on their $#!+headed plans and extended it again, or if they decided to get their hands in our wallets some other way now.

I am sure there will be a lull in new car sales now since everyone thinking of buying allready has, most dealers haven't been paid ( same as millions of health care claims a day will be), go to youtube under "clunkers vette" to see a clunker vette motor die, understand there are many like it on there, sinkening!

Did anybody work in wholesale used cars prior to cash for clunkers, what i saw in dallas was a big buyout of cars on the wholesale lots.
Now the TOTE YOUR NOTE guys are looking for make ready people.

All those You Tube videos make me sick to my stomach. I have friends that are in dire need of a decent car and they are good hard workign people that just don't make the income to buy a decent car. They are haulign their kids around in a junked out bomb of a car and they would certainly give what they could to buy one of those "clunkers" that these dealers are being forced to destroy.

I mean for **** sakes I can think of a lot better things to do with these cars rather than pour some crappy **** in the block and ruin them till the motors blow up.

Auction them off to low income families. set up special car lots with them and let people that don't qualify for a new car loan buy one of these cars for cheap.

For **** sakes even renting an arena and having the world's largest demolition derby and selling ticket and proceeds go to charity would be better than just ruining the freaking engines in them.

I know the Gov't does all kinds of rediculous **** but seeing that they are forcing dealers to ruin perfectly good motors in really decent cars just takes the freakign cake

So about that political discussion rule we have here...
    Anyone remember that?
I hate closing threads that have good discussion simply because it gets off topic.

Oh and Ray, that is one of the best ideas I've heard.

I guess I missed the boat on this one. Why are they blowing up the motors?

Same here. Then again, I don't care much for the news so I don't bother to follow it. From what you guys are saying, the program seems like it's bad for the country.

But I thought this program was being used to get really bad cars off of the road and using those cars as parts that would be recycled to be sold in places like Autozone.

    I'm lost.
