took more parts out of the maverick today.
when installed the fuel cell it did fit through the trunk opening. it wouldnt come out with out enlarging the opening.

the impact of the crash shoved the fuel cell forward and it tore through the front of the trunk floor. im impressed with the strength of the cell. it is dented up but not breached.

That is pretty cool. That fuel cell might have totally saved this whole mess from being much, much worse.

If you still have any legal issues pending on this, I think it falls under "evidence", and needs to be brought up. That and the fact the car was caged.

A stock Mav without the added reinforcements ... I can easily see there would have been a fire or worse.

    all legal issues are resolved.

with out any doubt in my mind, the cage and the kirky high back racing seats saved me from much more sever injuries. i only had my lap belt on of my 5 point harness. but this being an offset rear ending the seat belts had no substantial effect. i usually wore 4 of the belts when driving the car but that trip was under a mile and i was too lazy to do the shoulder straps. never again will i not wear the shoulder straps.

the maverick should be gone by monday and then the tear down of the comet!!! im excited. just need to stay excited. i think the maverick being gone and not having to look at the crushed rear of it any more will help.

Parts I would still cut off and save (if useable) from what I see. These parts could be used by you, or sold to somebdoy who needs them. Since your's is a California car, I am assuming these parts are rust free:

    1. Lower quarters behind the rear tires
    2. Front radiator support
    3. Battery tray apron
    4. Remove the rear bumper and save the bumper mounts. Somebody always looking for those.
    5. Any floor panel areas that could be used for patching.

That is just a quick list of what I can see.

I may send a lot of cars to junk yards....but when I send them....they are officially D.O.N.E.

if anybody wants the body they can have it. it just needs to be gone by the end of next week and i need to know that you want it by monday morning.

i dont have the space or time to start cutting off good sheet metal.
the quarters had bondo repair in them and are bent up from the crash.
the rear bumper brackets are trashed from the crash
the battery tray apron is already rotted out.

the trans tunnel has a shifter hole cut in it for the t5
    the radiator support is good.

there is no shortage of good body sheet metal out here so holing on to it just is not worth it.

so i finally have time to get working on the comet. i had the front and rear windshields removed. i have tried in the past but can never seem to get the trim off with out messing it up so i had a pro come and do it. i then stripped out the interior. i pulled up all the sound deader, pulled the dash and the dash wiring harness.
heres some pics for everbodys entertainment

the previous owner(s) must have liked pens. i found all of these under seats under the carpet and in the dash. i also found a 15mm wrench and a phillips head screw driver. there was even a cheap steak knife under the back seat.

im going to be taking the car to my chassis fabricator to get the cage and rear fire wall done next.
