This should be a pinned post, if there isn’t one already showing what happens. My 1976 Stallion had one of it’s previous owners put air shocks on it. Obviously, this is a BIG no-no with Mavericks. It looks like they tried to do something with repair by cutting a hole in the trunk floor to get to it. They then took a piece of metal and just... bolted it across. My question to all of you folks is has the structural integrity of the car been compromised? Or is it still good to reweld and keep on going? Thank you for your time!
What I'm looking at, I consider a problem. The rust and the sheet metal bolted in doesn't seem like something I would put on the road. I would clean up all the trunk area rust and pull that sheet metal off and see what is hiding under it. I'm looking at some potential involved repairs to be road worthy.
Yup... No doubt someone was running 120-150 Lbs of air, so tail stuck up like cat in heat. I have them on my Comet but have never had more than 40 Lbs or so.
Same side of the cross member was completely MIA on my first Maverick. The wood screws they used in hopes of "fixing" it were still there though.
Wood screws? I guess they didnt have drywall screws handy. Sorry, thats the first thought that popped into my head.
A friend of mine had the same thing happen with a Maverick, early in the 70s. His was a light Blue, wide rear tires, and he said 351 w. It would Smoke up a Doughnut!
