Three speed shifter collar broken- need replacement

    20190608_114715_resized.jpg I searched here and no luck. Tried google with the same result. I think the part number is 7228
    Shifter was not working so I took it apart and this is what I foung. I understand this is a pretty common issue but have not found a source of replacement. Thank you for any suggestions. Do not want to switch to the floor shifter- the car is very original and I want to keep it this way.

    The number 7228 only ID part as shift collar, BUT but not the application. The complete part number for Maverick/Comet with locking steering column and three on tree.... D3DZ-7228-A. Also fits '70-'71 Fairlane/Torino & full size Ford.

    I looked at it and the inside part looks identical. The outside collar is missing a pad (maybe safety neutral start?), which is no big deal but the shifter lever tube is quite a bit shorter so I don't know if the wrist pin holes on the shifter and the collar will match.
    for now i ordered the "universal" Ford HELP 83243 and will report back when it arrives

    If you are a good welder it wouldn’t be too hard to cut the lever tube off the original and graft it on to the replacement one listed if they are the same dimensions. I know where A manual column shift maverick is located but i won’t be back out there for about 6 months or so.

    AFAIK the collars with tapered lower section were used on the non-locking columns. I've never tried to mix parts between two.

    My bet is it also fits up through '77 model trucks and not '70-'77 passenger vehicles.

    Hard to believe that they sold 208000 cars and parts a re so scarce. One thing I was sure of was that parts sourcing would be a non issue on a Maverick....

    Column shift, manual transmission was only a small portion of that figure.

    Mavericks have never been all that popular with the classic car crowd. But they were very popular with the scrappers...

    I bought it because of the classic proportions and clean non cluttered lines. The only drawback i see in the design are the axles too close together. I'd push both the front and rear axles towards the ends of the body...

    We are almost there (Thank you Craig!!!!). Craig sold me the OEM collar and it is identical to mine. However, As I was putting it in I noticed a lot of play in the bottom side of the collar. It turns out the lower collar bushing is missing. I assume the part number would be d3dz7335a (?) I found this https://www.ebay.com/itm/1976-1977-...545920?hash=item25a666d0c0:g:o48AAOSwstxVVTO~ one on ebay but it carries different part number -D6DZ-7335B. Does anyone know if it fits? the seller says it is for a 76 3 speed column shifter car. It looks like it will fit and I cross referenced it with some collars for later Fords that look identical in the bottom section. I will email Craig tomorrow maybe he can bail me out- again....
