Leaving the carb behind, but not changing the manifold. Any suggestions on brand and type to go with? I have a 306 with a flat tappet cam and a performer RPM manifold and headers?
How much are you looking to spend? You will have to swap to a electric pump as well. You can fab your own kit using older ford version or even chevy kind can be programed to run a Ford. On my 52 Ford F1 I put a old Holley projection unit on it with 454 chevy style throttle body. Using the original analog turn knob tuning. I have a 94/95 chevy computer I have and learning how to program those. Can get those computers cheap from a junk yard. Mega squirt is also a option if you are leaning more toward DIY or you just looking for a kit?
I had a Holley projection III system that was junk, no one could get it to work. Holley sent two more programs to try and nothing ($800 in dyno time). then they didn't want to return my money for the unit.
If you have a small budget go with Holley Sniper. If you want a really good unit go With MSD atomic efi. A in tank pump is also better than a rail mounted pump. Tanks Inc has a mustang gas tank kit that works great for the swap.
Also just fyi the Fitech stuff doesn't seem to be working out for a couple guys I know. I'd research whatever you try.
a friend of mine got one and said that several people he has talked to has one of the same problems he has...just shutting off going down the road. he said the techs don't have a fix for it yet.
The ones I know of have absolutely terrible fuel economy. Given these are weekend warrior type cars but they got better fuel economy with a carburetor.
I installed the FiTech setup on mine in the spring of 2016. It's been working well for me once I got the idle tuning figured out.
i went with the ezefi retrofit with mpfi. but same pcm as there throttle body efi. worked well i would go with there 2.0
After my research I got the FI tech kit, now to take the time to get it hooked up. Holiday travel keeps me away from my garage.
Like any injection. power / ground quality is important.. but i hear good things about fitech. I would make sure you have an efi alternator to ensure good voltage at idle..
